Come back and make the angels glad; Angels: Day 250

Come back and make the angels glad; Angels: Day 250 March 30, 2017

angels_pacianSt. Pacian reminds us that you’re never so far gone in sin that you cant repent. The angels are watching and waiting; when you come back, no matter how far you’ve strayed, the angels will rejoice.

The book of Revelation also threatens the seven Churches unless they should repent. Now, God wouldn’t threaten those who don’t repent, unless he par- doned those who do. God Himself says, “Remember then from what you have fallen,” and “repent” (Rev. 2:5). And again, “When you return and mourn, then you shall be saved, and know where you have been.”

And let no one think that any soul has become so vile and sinful that God has no more need of him. The Lord does not will that any of us should perish. Even those of little worth—even the very least—are sought after. If you don’t believe me, look in the Gospel. The piece of silver is sought after, and when found is shown to the neighbors. The poor sheep, although he has to carry it back on his shoulders bending low, is not burdensome to the Shepherd. Over one sinner that repents the angels in Heaven rejoice, and the celestial choir is glad. Come, then, sinner; never stop asking! You see where there is joy over your return! –St. Pacian, Paraenesis, 25

IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .

Am I tempted to despair of my sins? Have I confessed the sins that bother me most? Have I asked my guardian angel for help in keeping me from sin?

CLOSING PRAYER

Lord, do not despise me, in spite of all my sins; I know that I am not worthy, but I trust in the care of the angels you send to help me.
