Top 7 Bible Verses For a Birthday Card September 28, 2014

Here are 7 of my favorite Bible verses that you could use for a birthday card.

God Sings Over You

Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”

Your parents weren’t the only One signing over you with gladness when you were born but so was God.  Can you imagine the God of the universe singing over you, not with a quiet, still voice but “with loud singing?”  Yes, God rejoices over you with gladness and is “in your midst” and “he will quiet you by his love.”  You are precious to God and your birth was no mistake.

Your Birth was Appointed by God

Psalm 139:16 “Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”

God saw you before you were even born.  How is this possible?  Because “he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will” (Eph 1:4-5).  Yes, God had your days recorded in the book, “ever one of them” even before you were born.  God sees things that are not yet as though they already exist and you existed in His mind before earth was even created!

Your Mother’s Joy

John 16:21 “When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.”

I had the great privilege of being present when all of my children were born and I cried every time.  My wife endured a lot of pain and agony but once the baby came, we both rejoiced and she forgot all of the pain she endured during the birth process.  Once you were born, “she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.”  Your birth brought joy to her and to your father too and most certainly to God.

Wonderfully and Fearfully Made

Psalm 139:13-15 “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.”

You were secretly knitted together by God in your mother’s womb. He knew what He was doing too.  The way a human life is formed is too incredible to describe but even in your mother’s womb, you were “not hidden from” God’s eyes.  He made you in the secret, inner most parts of your mother.

25 Quotes About Love

God Planned you for a Purpose

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”

God is sovereign over all that happens and that includes your birth.  I understand that Jeremiah 29:11 wasn’t written specifically to you but can it not be said of you that God has plans for you too? He declares a hope and a future for you.  You were not a random accident but of His providential will and you were born for a specific purpose.

The Potter and the Clay

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

You birth was planned from before time began (Eph 1).  Your birth and life were appointed “for good works, which God prepared beforehand” for you to “walk in them.”  No doubt, these works will be for the glory of God.  Before you were even born, God prepared ahead of time good works for you to do for his glory.  Now, find that purpose and fulfill it for His glory.

With Joy and Gladness

Luke 1:14 “And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.”

This was the birth announcement give to Zachariah about his wife Elizabeth that they would give birth to a son named John who would later be called John the Baptist.  Jesus said of John, “I tell you, among those born of women none is greater than John. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” Now your parents probably thought the same thing and when you were born or when they heard of your coming birth, like Zachariah and Elizabeth, they were filled with “joy and gladness” and “many [did] rejoice at [your] birth.”  You are a gift of God to your parents as it says “children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward” (Psalm 127:3).

Conclusion

Every Christian has two birthdays…one of their natural birth and the other on the day that they were born again because “unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3).  If you are born again then you’ll die only once but if you’re born only once, then you’ll die twice.  One will be a natural death and then the second death (Rev 21:8) will be in the lake of fire (Rev 20:11-15).  I plead with you, if you are not born again, to repent today and place your trust in the Savior.  Confess your sins and ask for forgiveness and He will take ever sin away (1 John 1:9) and then God will see you just as He sees His own Son, Jesus Christ (2 Cor 5:21).
