Top 7 Bible Verses For Those Feeling Betrayed

Top 7 Bible Verses For Those Feeling Betrayed February 13, 2016

Here are seven great Bible verses relating to those who feel or have been betrayed.

First Corinthians 11:23-24 “For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

This is part of the Lord’s Supper or Communion that the Apostle Paul is writing about and wants to remind the church at Corinth that Jesus was betrayed for our sake and gave, willingly, His own body and blood for the remission of sins and to redeem us back to God where we had previously been separated from God by our sins (Isaiah 59:2). If you’ve ever been betrayed, just think about Jesus Christ Who was abandoned by all except His mother Mary and a very young disciple named John.

Luke 22:3-6 “Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve. He went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers how he might betray him to them. And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. So he consented and sought an opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of a crowd.”

There have always been tares growing up alongside the wheat and false converts are hard to tell from the outside because wheat and tares, when they are young, look nearly identical. Consider the fact that Judas was sort of a church treasurer and no one suspected that he was going to betray Jesus, although Jesus Himself knew this but kept it to Himself until the time he should be revealed. At that tragic time that Jesus was finally betrayed, He said to Judas, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss” (Luke 22:48)?

First Chronicles 28:20 “Then David said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous and do it. Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed, for the LORD God, even my God, is with you. He will not leave you or forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of the LORD is finished.”

Discouragement is the opposite of encouragement and I believe everyone goes through periods of discouragement, so you are certainly not alone if you’ve been betrayed by others, even those who are Christians. We are told that God is not going to ever leave us and He will never forsake us as some people will. That’s why the David tells Solomon to be strong and courageous and don’t be afraid or fear because God is not going anywhere. The same applies to you and your life.

Acts 7:51-53 “You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you. Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered, you who received the law as delivered by angels and did not keep it.”

The main reason that I included this verse was that we have never been betrayed like Jesus was. His own people forsook Him, His own disciples ran away from Him (except for John and His mother, Jesus), His own disciple (Judas) betrayed Him, and Roman justice system failed Him. The difference is, we are sinners and being fallen creatures, we will naturally fail but Jesus was perfect and sinless. Jesus was betrayed so that God would accept us in Christ.

Psalm 37:25 “I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.”

The psalmist writes from experience and the knowledge of God and knows fully well that God will not forsake the righteous or allow His own children to beg bread so his advice is to “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4) and “He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun” (Psalm 37:6). The only thing we must do is to “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him” (Psalm 37:7) because God promises “those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land” (Psalm 37:9).

Matthew 24:9-11 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.”

The day is coming when many of our own family members will betray us, if they haven’t already, as Jesus says it will get so bad near the end of the age that “Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved” (Matt 10:21-22). That day is coming for us but for many around the world, that has already been happening for the last 2,000 years.

Deuteronomy 31:6, 8 “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you…It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

As Moses was trying to reassure Israel, he reminded them of God’s faithfulness and just Who God is. He is not like a man who will change his mind or lie (Num 23:19) but God is faithful to all of His great and precious promises and doesn’t leave when things get hard. He not only goes with us in life but He goes before us, meaning that He will be with us in the future and always will be.

Conclusion

If you are feeling betrayed or have been betrayed, you are most certainly not alone. God shows in His Word that many in the Bible were betrayed by friends, family, and even their own children, but Jesus was betrayed far and away like no one else and He suffered like no one has ever suffered (Isaiah 53) so you are in good company if you’re feeling betrayed. Simply cry out to God, express your heartache, and know that God never changes and since He says He won’t ever leave you or forsake you, you can believe that.
