7 Famous Christian Celebrities

7 Famous Christian Celebrities June 27, 2016

Here are seven famous celebrities who also happen to be Christians.

Denzel Washington Jr.

Denzel Washington Jr is an American actor and filmmaker who have received numerous awards like a Tony and two Academy Awards. Washington was born in 1954 in Mount Vernon, New York and his father was an ordained minister in a Pentecostal church but tragically at age 14, his parents divorced and he was crushed…at least for a time. Washington says that the divorce changed his life and it was actually for the better because of the guys he’d been hanging out with were trouble. Washington isn’t embarrassed to admit his faith in Christ. He’s even donated 2.5 million dollars to his church in Los Angles because of the work they do for the community. A 2006 Barna study found that Washington is better known and better loved than any living American religious figure right now.

Martin Sheen

Martin Sheen has been an American actor now for almost 50 years. Sheen was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1940 and in the process of being born the doctor’s forceps crushed his left arm, leaving it 3 inches shorter than his right. When he was a child he contracted polio and was bedridden for about a year. After his mother died when he was 11, the Holy Trinity Catholic Church was able to help out the family and prevent them from being sent to an orphanage. He has since been faithful to the Catholic Church, although he would call himself a “radical Catholic” meaning the “root” of the original church as he saw it.

Patricia Heaton

The American actress, Patricia Heaton, is known for playing the wife of Ray Romano in Everybody Loves Raymond and more recently in The Middle. Heaton was born in 1958 in Bay Village, Ohio. Her mother died of a brain aneurism when she was only 12 years old. She was raised a devout Catholic but now has embraced evangelical Protestantism and is strongly prolife. Heaton has intentionally slowed down her schedule so that she can devote more time to Bible reading, Bible study and prayers. She is one of the most recognizable Christian actresses in Hollywood and one of the most liked.

Everyone-who-is-called

Angela Bassett

Angela Bassett is an American actress and film director who was born in 1958 in New York City. Life was not easy for Bassett but in a strange twist, her parents shipped her off to live with her father’s sister Golden. This woman had no children of her own but she loved children and so she took great care of Bassett and was more like a mother to her than an aunt, but sadly her parents divorced and she was forced to relocate to St. Petersburg, Florida and was essentially raised in her late youth by a social worker. Even though she was a devout Christian, she broke into acting with her first television appearance as a prostitute in the TV movie Doubletake. Today, she is still worshiping at the West Angeles Church of God in Christ

Alec Baldwin

Alec Baldwin is an American actor, producer, and comedian and is the oldest of the four Baldwin brothers who also happen to be actors. Born in 1958 in Amityville, New York but raised in the Nassau Shores neighborhood. Baldwin loved sports and so he played football at Alfred G. Berner High School at Massapequa and after school, he was a busboy at the famous Disco Studio 54. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Alec Baldwin confidently lives his Christian identity in a place where Christians are highly unpopular (Hollywood).

Chuck Norris

Church Norris is an American actor and is one of the most outspoken of all Christian actors. Norris was born in 1940 in Ryan, Oklahoma and that’s a very conservative part of the country to grow up in and probably as a result, he grew up to be staunchly conservative and no one doubts that he isn’t shy about professing his faith. He’s been speaking up for prayer in schools and is on the National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools. He’s even authored a few Christian books Norris was trained in the martial arts and has often included martial arts in his movies but is most remember in the long running television series Walker, Texas Ranger (1993-2001). He has long since supported conservative prolife candidates, most of which are Republican and he himself has been a strong advocate for conservativism for the Republican Party.

Kirk Cameron

Kirk Cameron is an American television and movie actor who, in the last decade or so, became more of an evangelist than an actor as he teamed up with Ray Comfort and produced a series of evangelism programs. Although he still does acting the movies are primarily Christian. Cameron was born in 1970 in Panorama City, California, so he was already in the Hollywood neighborhood, so to speak. His career took off after a highly successful television series, Growing Pains, and became a teen heartthrob in the 1980s. He was a professed atheist and was really enjoying life as he was making $50,000 a week but at the height of his career, put his trust in Christ and was born again.

Conclusion

Most people in Hollywood may not be as open as these men and women about their faith. They don’t wear it on their sleeve like most of these actors do but what about you? Wherever you are in life, do people know you’re a Christian? Would you have enough evidence to be convicted of being one? Would there be lack of evidence in your life or would the evidence be overwhelmingly convincing?
