Here are seven Bible verses about shyness.

Acts 4:29 “And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness.”

When the disciples had been experiencing persecution the church prayed for God to “do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place” (Acts 4:28) and that is was clearly to speak with boldness the gospel of Jesus Christ and to do so unashamedly and without being shy about it.

Second Timothy 1:7 “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. “

God never gave us a spirit of timidity, fear or shyness but one of the real power of God in love and self-control. We should never be shy about telling others of the love of God (John 3:16) but also the wrath of God (John 3:18, 36b), telling the lost it is “because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed” (Rom 2:5). There is no reason to be silent when someone’s eternity is at stake.

First Peter 3:15 “But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.”

When someone asks about the hope you have in Christ, we should be ready at all times to speak up and give a defense for the reason we have home but we should remember to do this in a spirit of gentleness and with meekness, showing respect to all who you speak to. In this way we can “honor Christ the Lord as holy.”

Hebrews 13:2 “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”

How many times we have encountered angels, thinking they were simply strangers is something we’ll find out someday in heaven. We might be surprised that we’ve actually shown hospitality to an angel without even knowing it, so the author of Hebrews reminds of to show everyone hospitality, no matter who they are or what they look like because they could be an angel of God.

Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

The opposite of anxiety is trust so when we’re anxious about things we show that we don’t trust God with our future. Rather than be anxious, why not just give it up to God and pray about anything and everything that’s on our minds. We simply have to let our “requests be made known to God” and then trust Him in everything.

First Corinthians 5:1 “It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans, for a man has his father’s wife.”

Apparently, the Apostle Paul received a report from the Corinthian church that there was sexual immorality going on in the church and surprisingly, the church tolerated something that even the pagans (the lost) knew was wrong. When someone’s committing sexual immorality in the church, we must not be shy about it but speak to them first and if that doesn’t work, take someone else with you and go to them. Perhaps that will cause them to repent but if not, you must bring it up to the whole church (Matt 18:15-17).

Proverbs 29:25 “The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.”

We have no reason to fear what man can do as the psalmist wrote, “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me” (Psalm 118:6)? Jesus gives us the reason to fear God and not man by a vivid description given in Matthew 10:28 where He said “do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” Fear can be a stumbling block and can create such an intense shyness that we’re afraid to say anything to anyone, but whoever it is that trusts in the Lord is safe and secure and has no reason to fear.

Conclusion

It is very difficult for many of us to come out of our shell, but God has not given us a spirit of fear or timidity but a spirit of power, courage, boldness, and confidence, therefore we don’t have to be shy in regards to the gospel of Jesus Christ and telling anyone who might ask why you have hope in Christ, because there is hope in no one else but Him (Acts 4:12).
