Top 7 Bible Verses For Secretaries To Study September 27, 2016

Here are seven great Bible verses for secretaries to study.

Ephesians 6:5-8 “Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart.”

Even though secretaries are not bondservants, they are in a sense, servants of their employer, but the difference is, they are being paid, but the Apostle Paul’s point is that they are not to be working to be seen by others or as “people-pleasers,” but work with a sincere heart as they would for Jesus Christ, and that’s the key. Ultimately, they, and we work for the Lord, and not for an employer. It is “to the Lord and not to man,” and the benefit is, they “will receive back from the Lord” (Eph 6:7) and not from mankind.

Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”

Christians who know what the Bible says about work understand that it is God Whom they work for and not an employer, but having said that, God would have us work for them as actually working for God. That means we ought to work as being worthy of our wages, even if we’re underpaid. It is God Who will reward us someday and that reward may come in this life, but ultimately, in the life to come.

Ecclesiastes 9:10 “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.”

When I was a janitor years ago, I was in a machine shop and scrubbing the restroom floors and toilets, and being down on my hands and knees, I was already in a position to pray and this verse (Eccl 9:10) was what I thought of. I honestly admit that sometimes I thought, “What am I doing here?” but my wife’s words of wisdom encouraged me as she said, “Any work that is honest is admirable and worthy of respect,” and she was right. It doesn’t matter what we do, as long as we give it all we’ve got, because that is our duty before our employer, but most of all, before God.

Whatever-you-do-work (2)

Isaiah 30:8 “And now, go, write it before them on a tablet and inscribe it in a book, that it may be for the time to come as a witness forever.”

If you are a secretary, don’t be discouraged, because in the office I used to work at, the secretary was the vital hub of operations and she was the one who knew what was going on in the office more than anyone else (including the boss). Don’t think that just because you’re a secretary, that God isn’t going to use you for His glory. Any man or woman who is a secretary should know that they play a vital role in the operation of the office and the company, and he or she is often the one that people come to when they need to know something. That makes them more valuable than we can even imagine.

Ephesians 6:7-8 “Rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free.”

Whether you work for a Christian employer or a secular one, it makes no difference to God, because God, being sovereign, has placed you where you are at and He expects you to do the very best you can, with the understanding that your (and my) reward comes from God, and it may not be in this life where we receive our reward for our faithful duty…but in the life to come. Our greatest reward never comes from man, but from God Himself on the day of His return, as Jesus said “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done” (Rev 22:12).

John 17:8 “For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.”

Even though this verse may not have to do with work, what you do as a secretary is vital to the company you work for. One missing word, one word omitted, or a word added can help your employer in ways that maybe they haven’t even thought of. God has placed your employer over you, so what you dictate or send out in a letter should be in words that are salted with grace. One little word can mean so much, so don’t ever think that God thinks less of you because of what you do.

Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

This verse can apply to so many things in the Christian’s life. Whether it is in word or deed, let it all be done in the name of the Lord and for His glory. Paul says “whatever you do,” so that covers everything you do for others, including your employer. Secretaries act as an internal processor for the company, and so as the secretary goes, so goes the company, so Pauls’ command is to do everything as unto God Himself, because it is.

Conclusion

If you’re a secretary, male or female, don’t underestimate your value to the company. As we have read, whatever we do, we are actually doing for God…and the converse is, whatever we left undone, is left undone for God, and of course the company. Don’t belittle anyone who has a job that seems less than dignified, because the Scriptures say, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for me,” so “do it with all your might.”
