Top 7 Bible Verses That Preschoolers Can Understand September 27, 2016

Here are seven Bible verses that even preschoolers can understand.

Acts 4:12 “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

If parents don’t get this face right, then children might believe the lie that there are other ways or paths to God. They must learn from the beginning that there is salvation found in no other name than Jesus Christ. The “many paths to God” lie cannot be emphasized enough. Buddha is dead, Confucius is buried, and Muhammed is gone. Only Jesus Christ was crucified and died, but rose on the third day (Rom 10:9-13). All other religions lead will lead to God, but this is a path that no one wants to take (Rev 20:11-5), because it’s a one way road that leads to destruction (Rev 21:8).

Acts 16:31 “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

The Bible has been described as being shallow enough for a child to wade in, yet deep enough to drown a theologian, but the fact is, the main things are the plain things, and plainly, believing on the Lord Jesus Christ is how a person is saved. It’s not about feeling, but about faith in the Lord. Even the thief on the cross, just hours before his death, believe on the Lord, and Jesus promised him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43).

Psalm 56:3 “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”

Preschoolers are notorious for being afraid of things that they don’t understand. I remember taking my son to preschool on his very first day and he was afraid. That’s because he didn’t know the teacher or any of the other children, but I reminded him that I would come again and take him home after work. I wanted him to trust me, but more so, to trust in the Lord Who has said, He will never leave him or forsake him (Heb 13:5).

Colossians 3:20 “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.”

Children need to know that not only do parents expect their children to obey them, so does the Lord God. When children are obedient to their parents, this pleases them, but more importantly, it pleases God. We know that obedience is a sign of our love for God. Remind your preschoolers that “Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him” (John 14:21).

Genesis 16:13 “You are a God of seeing,” for she said, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.”

Children should be reminded that even if they do something that is wrong, and nobody sees it, God does. God knows the human heart (1st Sam 16:7), so they aren’t really getting away with anything because nothing is hidden from His sight as the author of Hebrews writes, “And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Heb 4:13), and of course that includes children as well as adults.

Psalm 136:1 “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.”

This Bible verse is important for children to know that they should be grateful to God for all He has done for them, as well as their parents. To give God thanks is to have a heart full of gratitude, and when we give thanks to God, this shows Him that we aren’t taking Him and His many blessings for granted. Adults would do well to do the same thing, and I do give God thanks for my children and grandchildren because I understand that children are a gift from God, just as the psalmist writes, “Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward” (Psalm 127:3), so remind them that their life has been granted by God Who is the Author of Life (Acts 3:15).

Exodus 13:8 “You shall tell your son on that day, ‘It is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.”

One of the best ways to create a love for God and instill in them the many mighty things God has done, is to remind them, as it says in this verse, about what the Lord has done in the past. Christian parents have been delivered out of their sins and been granted eternal life through the precious blood of the Lamb of God, so if we fail to remind them of what the omnipotent God has done, they’’ forget what God has done for others, and what He’s done for the children of Israel, surely He can do for them. That’s why God commanded parents in ancient Israel to “teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates” (Deut 6:7-9). That means that everywhere they turn, they’ll be reminded of God.

Conclusion

Parents are given a command by God which says, “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise” (Deut 6:6-7). What this looks like is when they get up in the morning, they should know about the ways of God. During the day, they should be reminded about how good God is, and when they lie down to go to sleep, instill in them the Lord’s statutes so that they will never forget them. Perhaps one of the most underappreciated and overlooked Bible verse in the Bible is one that we might take for granted, and it’s, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
