THE SHACK’s Wm. Paul Young: Where’s God When…

THE SHACK’s Wm. Paul Young: Where’s God When… April 11, 2015

Where’s God in the midst of loss and suffering? How do we find hope and healing when God seems so far away?

I’m honored and excited to be a part of an upcoming touring production with Wm. Paul Young (author of THE SHACK) and  Reba Riley (author of POST TRAUMATIC CHURCH SYNDROME) in which we take on this question:

Where is God when we’re in pain? How do we find hope and healing when we’re immersed in suffering?

Through story, music and an immersive multimedia experience, we journey together through the darkest valleys, discovering in the middle of that darkness the opportunity for liberation and hope found when we make peace with our past.

The first three events are in Spokane, WA (May 15), Seattle/Bothel, WA (May 16) and Portland, OR (May 17th), with more than a dozen other cities across the country this fall. The tour, produced by Jim Henderson Presents, is an experiment in what Henderson calls “Taking Jesus Public.” In a postmodern sense, we’re shedding the preaching and didactic teaching so often associated with church, embracing instead a theopoetic experience in which everyone can find meaning and a sense of place.

This week, Paul Young and Reba Riley joined me for a dialogue about the upcoming show, and about why we feel this production is so important, not just to Christians, but for anyone who has experienced loss and who longs to emerge from it with hope and a sense of peace.
