Church Sign Epic Fails, “Drive Thru Crucifixion” Edition (2 of 2)

So I drove up to this church and they nailed me to my dashboard with a giant staple gun. Man, they weren't kidding!

I went up to the drive-through and ordered a Big Mac, and all I got was this crucifixion instead. Can anyone say “REFUND???” [Read more...]

Church Sign Epic Fails “Bunny Love” Edition

It's my fault, guys. I totally forgot to pour nard all over his feet before he rode that guinea pig into town. (Theology nerd humor alert!).

Folks ask me how I find so many of these signs. Turns out if you leave them alone, they just multiply on their own. I’m drowning in the things!!!   [Read more...]

Childless Woman: “I Wanted That Suffering.”

I was pretty sure my parents were insane when I was a kid. It never made any sense to me when they’d talk about how they’d rather have something bad happen to them instead of to me. Well folks, that makes three of us, I guess. Being the good little narcissist, I agreed that I [Read More...]

What’s So Good About Good Friday?

I’ve never liked the fact that we call the day on which we remember Jesus’ crucifixion “Good Friday.” What’s so good about it anyway? Personally I find the entirety of Holy Week – save for Easter – pretty depressing. Sure, the days are getting longer and things have started to grow all around us, but [Read More...]

Resurrection: Bending Toward Love

Can Protestants be “too Catholic?”

I posted a comment on my Facebook Page and Twitter Page recently about how it seems ironic to me that so many churches who focus on atonement theology (the idea that Jesus died for your sins as central to what they believe) seems to jump right past Holy Week and on to Easter.

It seems to me that someone who preaches about and studies the death and suffering of Christ so much the rest of the year would have a field day emphasizing this central tenet of their beliefs on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. But most of the churches in town that I know focus on this kind of image of Jesus have had slogans like ‘Christ is Risen!” on their signs for a couple of weeks already. [Read more...]
