Yesterday, a bunch of Mr. B.’s co-workers at CBS were told they will be getting laid off. Two weeks before Christmas. Forty people in all from where he works.
The really shitty thing is, if Les Moonves or Katie Couric, both multi-bazillionaires gave up just one weeks pay, they could have saved these 40 peoples jobs. That’s right. The amount of money that CBS had to shave off, which cost 40 people their jobs, is less than a weeks pay for the head of CBS or their “shining star” (said with dripping sarcasm) Katie Couric. (Roughly 6 years pay for Mr. B.)
And I bet both of them will still get big, fat Christmas bonuses.
So a big boot in the ass for the greedy rich, who keep on getting richer, while making sure that the working class get it up the butt right before the holidays.

Ugh. That’s infuriating.
Funny how they don’t see cutting salaries of the rich as an option, isn’t it? Disgusting. All those poor people.
Yeah that sucks.
It’s disgusting, isn’t it? People at my dad’s shop are getting laid off, too.
It’s crazy. I feel the same way about pro athletes. I love football, but do they need to earn that much money?
How sad to get laid off right before the holidays. I am so sick of the rich getting richer while some of us just totter off the edge of middle class and down into poor-dom.
Booo!!! I am so sorry to hear that!
Here in Tennessee, the state health care insurance is cutting private duty nursing hours so much that people who have relied on this care are ending up in nursing homes and dying. The Politicians who made the decision to cut funding are probably having extravagant Christmas parties. Ugghh.
CBS’s programming is getting shitty.
Jobs have been lost round here, too. Terrible before the holidays.
Oh I am so sorry. I hope Mr. B gets to keep his job. Every where I look now the sky is falling. Our biggest employer Fasco is closing. So our small town will be devastated. Big hug Mrs. BI will light a candle for thee.
if all of them schmucks would take a pay cut..doesn’t have to be a lot..just say $1,00 a week…each and every one of them..hell, they’d have enough to not only keep those people they laid off, they could hire some more and really help the economy.
Layoffs at the House of Peacock, too. Now, you wanna talk about someone not doing well… I mean Brian Williams is OK, but we have this guy Zucker. Network’s gone down the toilet since he was programming it. Now he runs the company. Ugh. I can think on one layoff that would save a bunch of money **and** improve our ratings.
They just asked one of our employees with 30 years to leave because they needed a scape goat for our owners horrible business decision. He froze pay raises for the employees but just bought himself a helicopter for fun. Goes with the two yahts. Disgusting!
Yah, I know about that. The radio division has demoted a bunch of people including my hubby’s boss. We’ve seen so many close friends and co-workers loose their jobs and my hubby knows his job is on the chopping block. I am truly terrified for the first time in my life.
Why do they always have to do it right before the holidays? Couldn’t they wait a miserable couple of weeks?
Totally sucks. My company is cutting all employee’s hours a bit as a last ditch effort before laying people off. Not really what I need right now, ya know?Totally laaaaammmmeee.
How very very sad.Merry Christmas (not) to you Katie Couric.Bear((( )))
This is sad and I hope that they will find new jobs as soon as possible. I’ve been out of work for a long time and I have just recently found a job, so I know how hard that is. Thinking about all those rich people getting richer just makes me mad.
The people in my husband’s shop are about to go postal. They are laying off 30 more people and expecting the ones remaining to do those peoples’ work, and this is the fifth round of layoffs in as many years. My husband would be freaking out if he hadn’t gone onto the executive board of his union. He feels like he’s doing all he can to save jobs. And pensions.I heard that Viacom let 900 people go. My sis-in-law works for them.
High pay=feeding people
Totally sucks. I was laid off this week too. Much less aggravating, because we didn’t have any Katie Courics working at the car dealership where I was asked to not work at anymore.
Grrrrrrrrr.
Grrrrrrrr….
This is a great point you make and it makes me sad and mad!
My hubby works for Condé Nast Publications – they let go of a whole bunch of people, shut down a few magazines (Jane, Fashion Rocks, Women’s Golf) and are talking about dropping a few more titles. They did do one thing that I thought was at least half way decent – an entire graphics department was being let go, but they set them all up for interviews with a fantastic company called Quad Graphics in the city as well for the day they told them – they basically said, listen, this is your last week with us, but today, leave here, go over to Quad and they will interview you for a position there on our time. From what I understand they also gave them decent severence. Hubby is worried is job is going soon – and we’re scared to death. We are *finally* pulling out of the hole we were in when we had to declare chapter 13 in 2002. We live paycheck to paycheck and if he loses his job, we are completely screwed. I just can’t get into any holiday spirit because of all this. I’m having nightmares of foreclosure now!
