Nonprofit status comes with strings attached, and one of those is that pastors must not advocate for one candidate over another. This quid pro quo seems oppressive to some, and they have organized civil disobedience against it.
An energetic but civil critique of Christianity from an atheist viewpoint
U.S. nonprofit organizations are required to disclose their financial information to the public. It’s a contract—the Internal Revenue Service gives them nonprofit status, and in return they prove that they’re spending that money wisely. This applies to all nonprofits except churches and religious organizations. Isn’t that odd? It’s almost like they have something to hide.
