My boys watched this the other night, and suggested America desperately needs to watch this classic film.  From a time where the goal seemed to move past racism and bigotry.   Find it, watch it, repeat.  It could only help.     Read more

As well as Nagasaki.  Donald McClarey posts both pros and cons, with his own take thrown in.  I’m busy right now, getting ready for kids’ school as well as my own.  Plus a few projects on the burners.  I’ll leave the comments to reflect on the different perspectives at The American Catholic.  That’s conversation enough right there. Read more

I’ve been asked if I’m concerned.  Of course I am.  Just because I have faith in the hereafter doesn’t mean I care nothing about the here and now.  I have sons, and I concern myself with the world they will inherit.  I don’t talk about their potential suffering as some badge of honor for me.  If I think suffering for the faith is a virtue, then there are plenty of opportunities for me to suffer for the faith.  I needn’t... Read more

By firing a man who dared to express opinions not in line with the latest definitions of diversity.  Yep.  That’s America, c. 2017.  Conform to tolerance and diversity – or else.  I have to admit, our modern moral crusades are good for a laugh if nothing else. Read more

Glen Campbell died today.    One of the earliest memories I have is watching him perform on some variety show.  It was on our old console television set that was about as big as our sofa.  We lived out in the country then, and moved in town shortly after I turned five.  That must mean I was around four, and it would have been c. 1971 give or take. Campbell was one of those individuals who formed the backdrop of... Read more

Perhaps it’s us, but those African Americans who are our friend seems to echo this particular take.  They don’t seem to tell their kids much other than ‘be good people, look both ways before crossing, do good in school, etc.’   I’m sure there are exceptions.  There always are.  And perhaps that they are friends with us suggests they take things in a different direction.  I don’t know.  Just thought this perspective was an interesting take compared to some of what... Read more

Just saw Mr. Hardy passed away.  To many people today, he’s known from the Harry Potter films.  Donald McClarey tutors us on a few more interesting tidbits.  I had no idea that he studied under both Tolkien and Lewis.  And an expert on the longbow.  How awesome is  that. My family’s main connection to him predated the HP craze.  Back in the 90s, when TLC was actually ‘The Learning Channel”, he hosted a series called Castle Ghosts.  It was a walk through... Read more

One of our favorites when in a pinch, and darn good chicken sandwiches. Not to mention I’ve never been to one that didn’t have polite employees, clean conditions and great service. So it isn’t a shock that it generates more money per restaurant than any other in the nation.  Plus, I don’t mind saying, after they were put in the cross hairs a few years ago for failing to conform to diversity, it’s nice to see they’re still moving along. Read more

I can’t help but notice, as I listen to Al Gore sound the clarion call over climate change, how little personal sacrifice is involved in the whole MMGW movement (that’s Man Made Global Warming).  Really.  We’re talking about something that could spell the doom of millions and forever alter life on planet earth.  But where’s the real sacrifice?  Even people I know who are all ‘MMGW!’ don’t seem to adjust their lifestyles.  They still have big screen TVs, or take... Read more

A fair enough look at the kerfuffle.  The La Civiltà piece was, to me, no different than anything else I’ve seen.  Basically a Catholic with sympathies toward left leaning ideals fired a broadside at conservative Catholics and their unholy alliance with Evangelicals.  Just as Conservatives used to fire away at unholy alliances between Catholics and liberal Protestants.  What comes around I guess. Read more
