On the murder of Fr. Hamel

Except for FOX News, this story has been relegated to the news ticker at the bottom of the DNC coverage.  So it takes the World Post to unpack some details about the attack and its links to ISIS.  It’s worth noting that, as of the writing of the WP piece, President Obama has yet to join other leaders in expressing outrage and horror.

Just what that means is up to interpretation.  If President Obama was known for being restrained and waiting for facts before jumping into such stories, I’d think nothing of it.  It is worth noting, however, that as of now the attack hasn’t made the Executive grade.  Then again, this hasn’t been a big theme in the DNC this week, so maybe that explains the silence.  I don’t know.

In the piece itself, the link is drawn straight to the US Iraqi invasion.  And certainly that is part of it.  But as I posted here, anyone who thinks the persecution or oppression of Christians is unique to ISIS and only the result of our politics in Iraq is missing a huge swath of  history and global events.
