Apparently size matters for the press

Apparently size matters for the press January 23, 2017

And Trump.  So memes quickly flew that said the crowd for Trump was smaller than the crowd for Obama.  Initially the first photos were suspect, using early morning crowd picks for Trump and comparing them to the peak of Obama’s speech.  Nonetheless, once the smoke cleared, and later photos emerged, the crowds for Trump were clearly smaller than those for Obama.  Especially Obama’s first inauguration.

Which means nothing.  There are so many variables and factors to consider with such things that I’ve already wasted time thinking about it.

Just as it means nothing now that we’ve discovered that Obama’s first inauguration drew more viewers.  Likewise in 2008, while we heard about the massive crowds, little time was spent by the MSM focusing on the fact that Reagan holds the all time viewership record for his first inauguration.  In fact, compared to most inaugurations, Trump fared pretty well, including beating out Obama’s second ingratiation.  Including beating out Clinton both times.

Which means nothing.   There are so many variables and factors to consider with such things that I’ve already wasted time thinking about it.

I post this because the fact that the press followed the lead of partisan sites by making it a big deal speaks volumes.  The fact that Trump then fired back in schoolyard form with false information only gives us a glimpse into the next four years of political coverage.

We’re dealing with an office supposed to be held by an adult, and scrutinized by a profession filled with adults.  And so far, we have neither.
