Fireside This Sunday Evening in Wilmette, Illinois

Just in case there’s anybody in the area who might be interested:

I’ll be doing a fireside on the topic of building bridges with Islam and Muslims (and any other topic that comes up in the Q&A) at 7 PM this Sunday, 18 November 2012, in the Wilmette Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (2727 E. Lake Avenue) in Wilmette, Illinois — which is about fifteen miles north of downtown Chicago.

Posted from Chicago, Illinois.

Oh, man. Not only is this the stake center I grew up in it is the chapel I attended all my life until I reached my senior year in high school. If I were still up there I’d have drove right to you fireside.

You’ve had a very narrow escape. A tender mercy.

One of the remarkable things about states like New York and Illinois is that, despite the promibence of megalopolises like New York City and Chicago, there are vast areas of those states with small towns and farms. About 15 years ago, I was traveling on business to Savannah, Illinois, on the Mississippi River just a little south of Wisconsin. My flight from Denver landed in Moline. I was instructed to turn right out of the airport and fllow the River Road north until I came to the first stop light, then turn left. It was 50 miles before I got to a traffic signal.
