If this rule were actually followed in the Middle East, there would be no wars there.

“Good and evil actions are not equal.  Pay back [an evil act] with one that is better.  In this way, the person with whom you have been at odds will become like a warm friend.”  (Qur’an 41:34)


I’m reminded of an anecdote told about Abraham Lincoln.  Chiding him for his charitable treatment of the Confederate rebels, an advisor reminded him that he should destroy his enemies.  “But,” Lincoln replied, “do I not destroy my enemies when I make them my friends?”
