“The Mormon Bonhoeffer”

I too was somewhat surprised and quite pleased to hear Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles quote Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer in April Conference.

I doubt that very many Latter-day Saints are going to be put off by Rev. Dr. Bonhoeffer’s evident affection for his friend and former student Eberhard Bethge.  For one thing, we’re not the hateful bigots that many love to imagine us to be.  And, for another, nobody (so far as I’m aware) denies that the relationship between Bonhoeffer and Bethge, whatever it may precisely have been, was chaste.
