Some of you may be aware that the 2015 Parliament of the World’s Religions will be held in Salt Lake City next week, at the Salt Palace Convention Center.

I was a quite active participant in the Parliament when it was held in Melbourne in 2009.  This go-around, my public participation will be considerably more modest, but I’ll be there.

Specifically, I’ll be joining with Drs. Brian Birch of Utah Valley University and Blair Van Dyke of the Orem LDS Institute of Religion in a brief panel discussion on “Mormonism among the World Religions.”  We’ll be sharing the time-slot below with another panel, chaired by Andrea Radke Moss, which will focus on Mormon participation at the first Parliament, back in 1893:

Session |Friday, October 15th (3:45-5:15) – Ballroom B
Program Description | Mormonism is among the fastest growing religions in the world and is well-established in a variety of countries and cultures. Though Mormonism is often referred to as “an American original,” the theology and practice of the Latter-day Saints possesses intriguing points of contact with Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Judaism. This panel will explore theological, ritual, and ethical dimensions of Mormonism in comparative contexts.
