With a group from our neighborhood, my wife and I regularly go out to dinner and then attend the latest production at the Hale Center Theater in Orem.

It’s a real highlight for me, to be able to talk with neighbors and then to enjoy good live theater not far from home.

Last night, we saw a musical production of Jane Eyre, based upon Charlotte Brontë’s famous 1847 novel.

Many would be shocked to know that I’m really rather something of an incurable romantic — even I need occasional breaks from telling shameless mercenary lies and engaging in mean-spirited personal attacks — and that Jane Eyre has long been among my favorite stories, including not only the novel but several film adaptations of it.

The musical play is slightly long, but quite good (even sometimes moving; I noticed several men surreptitiously wiping their eyes at one point), and the production last night was excellent.  Elizabeth Dabczynski-Bean was superb as Jane, Dallyn Vail Bayles made an excellent Rochester, and the supporting cast was strong.

I have no idea whether tickets are still available, but I strongly recommend this play.  We have really enjoyed our regular season tickets for the Orem theater, as well as, separately, for the Hale Centre Theatre in West Valley City.
