I’m thrilled with the current crop of presidential candidates!

For someone who can’t vote for Hillary (as I can’t), the alternatives are, shall we say, sparse:

But, some say, there’s Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party!

Well, I’ve always had reservations about the full Libertarian agenda (e.g., on foreign policy), though I’m strongly in favor of maximally free markets.  And Gary Johnson himself is a flawed and somewhat odd messenger for the Libertarian Party, anyhow.  Moreover, it turns out, on one set of issues — one that happens to be very important to me, and where I do take a libertarian position — he’s not really a libertarian at all:

I may still vote for Mr. Johnson as a protest, and in hope that, someday, libertarianism will be a serious part of the American political debate.  But I don’t actually want Gary Johnson to be president of the United States.  And, fortunately, he isn’t going to be.

(Please note my distinction between libertarian with a  lower-case L and Libertarian written with a capital letter.  The former refers to the intellectual position or viewpoint; the latter denotes the formally organized political party.)
