From the one-time supreme commander of the Allied forces in Europe, and leader of D-Day May 22, 2017

Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it.

 

You do not lead by hitting people over the head — that’s assault, not leadership.

 

And, yes, he did eventually resign his five-star generalship and become president of Columbia University.  And then the thirty-fourth president of the United States.

 

He knew something, perhaps, about leadership.
