“Nervous about your Muslim neighbors? Then invite them over for dinner”

“Nervous about your Muslim neighbors? Then invite them over for dinner” June 24, 2017

The palace of the Doges
We sailed past the Doge’s Palace (the Palazzo Ducale or Ducal Palace) and the Piazza and Basilica of San Marco just a few hours ago. It’s the second time that I’ve done this,. The first time, I didn’t expect it, and I was amazed at how close these enormous cruise ships come to the heart of the city. Breathtaking. This time, of course, we expected it, and we had an excellent viewpoint from Deck 11 (much higher than the viewpoint of this photo), with lunch.

I love this idea, and I hope that it spreads.  And not only for Mormons and Muslims:

I think that it could work between Democrats and Republicans — Ronald Reagan and Tip O’Neill, the Democratic Speaker of the House, used to have a drink together in the evening from time to time — between liberals and conservatives, perhaps even between gay activists and people who oppose same-sex marriage.

I worry about polarization.  Mutual hostility is a serious threat to our society.  I don’t minimize the importance of many issues, but I’m concerned at divisive hatred.
