We attended the Lahaina 1st Ward today, having decided that an English-language service would be more appropriate for us than one in Tongan.

It was a very good meeting, organized loosely on a “Pioneer Day” theme.

Once again, I loved the roster of names and participants:

Conducting the meeting was Aloha Kaniho.

The invocation was given by Nathan Kahaialii.

The first speaker was Ryah Kaniho, who is back for the summer from the college in Texas where she’s studying on an athletic scholarship.  She was followed by a missionary named Sister Maghanoy, who, I’m guessing, is from the Philippines.

The closing speaker was Reggie Puha, and the benediction was given by Fea-B-Lei Alcomindras.

I thought that the speakers were all quite good.

Sister Maghanoy cited Mosiah 2:41 as her favorite scriptural passage:

“And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness.  O remember, remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoken it.”

It’s among my favorite passages, as well.
