Lindbergh grave, Maui
The grave of Charles Lindbergh (1902-1974), adjacent to the Palapala Ho’omau Church in Kipahulu, Maui. His epitaph quotes Psalm 139:9: “If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea.”

“It [Maui] is queer country, hard to describe because it varies so—and all the foliage changes—sometimes grass—sometimes cane—sometimes bamboo—there are many waterfalls—masses of rank trees and bushes—all new to me— . . . always the sea with usually its black rim of lava at the edge.”

Georgia O’Keeffe
