My thoughts on the dumb jock who refused to stand up for the National Anthem August 31, 2016

I was disgusted when I saw San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sitting during our National Anthem and even more so later when he explained he was protesting how black people are treated in this country. He has no idea what he’s talking about.

Kaepernick reinforces the stereotype of the dumb jock. Shame on head coach Chip Kelly for not making this guy stand up like the rest of his teammates. Players don’t have to put their hands over their hearts or say the words, but no one should get special treatment. If the team stands, he should stand. But Kaepernick is obviously a “me first” kind of guy, and I wouldn’t want him as a teammate.

I think it’s terrible when politics mixes with athletics and entertainment. I want to watch football and escape from politics, but seeing something like this takes away the enjoyment. Stunts like this will only turn people away.

NFL fans, me included love America and everything it stands for. Every chance I get, I salute the flag. I’m tired of all of this America bashing going on by the Left. Generations of kids are being taught to hate America. But I still believe what Ronald Reagan said about the USA: It is that shining city on a hill, a beacon for the entire world to see.

So, I’m not impressed when a quarterback worth over $100 million protests injustice by the very country that allowed him the opportunity to play football and be rewarded handsomely. Not to mention a nation that allows him freedom of expression. Maybe Kaepernick should try living somewhere else and see if he can duplicate his lifestyle in a country that’s less oppressive than America.

But until then, stand up out of respect for others who’ve fought to ensure your liberty to become who you are.
