A Change Is In the Air

Here in New York, it’s been a hot, relentless summer. But in the last few days, the first hints of fall are making themselves known: the earlier fading of the light, a sudden crispness in the air, a touch of cool in the breeze. And since autumn is a time of change and transition in the wider world, it’s only fitting that it be the time for a change in this site as well.

Daylight Atheism has been my home on the ‘net for over five years. I’ve always thought of it that way, as you can probably tell from the category names in the sidebar on the right. When I started this project, I never gave much thought to how it would conclude or what would come next. But nothing lasts forever, everything is impermanent (which is one thing the Buddhists got right), and I’m no exception.

In the next few days, I’m going to make a major announcement about the future of this site. Stay tuned!

Moving to Freethought Blogs, too, eh?

  • http://conversationalatheist.com Conversational Atheist

    I’ll be watching and waiting…

  • OverlappingMagisteria

RRRgg.. The tension building “announcement that I will give an announcement.” Curse you!

My money’s on freethought blogs too.

  • Rick

    FTB FTW!
One domain to rule them all!

  • Penguin_Factory

I hope it’s Freethought Blogs. They’d be stupid not to want you on board.

  • Ubi Dubium

Dangit, I was going to comment “I bet you’re moving to Freethought Blogs” and I find everybody else has beaten me to the punch.

Now if it turns out to be something else, like you’re moving over to Patheos like Hemant did, then you’ll have us surprised.

  • Hibernia86

Ebonmuse, you are such a tease ;)

  • ildi

I hate change! I particularly hate change that involves some complicated (to me) registering process that requires memorizing yet another (probably extremely hackable) password…

  • Korey Peters

    I hope it’s OMG PONIES!!!

  • Brian M

You all are ignoring THE TRUTH that is staring in your faces. Ebon has FOUND THE LORD and he will be accepting a post at Oral Roberts University as Rector Maximus of Godly Discipline!

    Showmanship! ;)

Moving to Freethought Blogs, too, eh?

That’s the logical guess, especially given the way Freethought Blogs is fast becoming a center of gravitational coalescence, vacuuming up all the sites on my blogroll. However, just to heighten the tension a bit more, I can say that it’s incorrect. My announcement will not be that Daylight Atheism is joining Freethought Blogs. You may now return to speculating. :)

(P.S. I’m also not joining Oral Roberts University, although I love the title “Rector Maximus”, and I may well take it on regardless.)

  • Douglas kirk

You’re not joining Hemant over at Patheos are you? Be weird to go two four sites for all my atheist blogging needs….

  • Reginald Selkirk

have some fun with it. Before you go, leave a notice that the blog has been cancelled due to rapture.

  • Brock

This site has been my first daily stop on the net ever since I discovered it. I am now suffering the extremes of anxiety.

  • penn

Is the announcement that Daylight Atheism will stay here to archive your old material, and you will start a new blog at Freethought Blogs? That’s what Greg Laden did I think.

  • Ubi Dubium

    Hmmm…. what could it be??

Switching to a podcast? Doing a YouTube video blog?

He’s going to confess to being The Digital Cuttlefish?

  • 5acos(phi/2)

I came to Ebonmusings when… it must be at least 7 or 8 years ago… I made the mental connection between the psychology of christianity and stockholms synrome. I ran a search to see if anyone else has done any sort of analysis on that, and EbonMusings came up. I started reading the articles and I was hooked. Been a reader ever since.

It better not be bad news. I want my Daylight Atheism!

  • rejistania

    Are you moving to partheos?

  • Jeff

It hasn’t been that hot in New York. Last summer it was beastly – in the nineties and unbearably humid nearly every day. This year was a cakewalk by comparison.

  • http://eternalbookshelf.wordpress.com Ani Sharmin

I was going to guess Freethought Blogs as well, but since you’ve debunked that, I’m back to wondering. Looking forward to your announcement! (Just to make a wild guess: You’re going to announce you’ve accepted Jesus and are starting a new blog called Son Shine Christianity.)

  • 2-D Man

Ebon is training to be a Jedi Knight and will be unavailable to blog, as Degobah does not have WiFi.

  • http://fromwinetowater.wordpress.com/ Ivan

Ok Adam, if you insist – I will take over your site.

  • Matt

Having so many of the major atheist and skeptic blogs on one site makes me nervous. It’s far too easy for schools, libraries, employers, and other agencies to block a single domain through a content filter. With a single entry in a text file, the leading voices of this movement could be silenced.

That is a worrisome thought. But the benefits in the meantime of centralizing so much discussion and banding together as a recognizable team are worth it. Forgive me for shilling for my new home here, but I have long wanted there to be an atheist equivalent to The Atlantic, Slate, Salon, Huffington Post, etc. where there were distinctively atheistic voices writing on a range of topics and not only atheism. This has the potential to really become something like that given enough time and evolution. I find the whole prospect very tantalizing.

  • Matt K

Changes?! I just started reading the volumes of good and intelligent information on this site…. I hope none of that is lost in the change to occur.

  • LindaJoy

Adam- you know I’ll follow you anywhere (I’m STILL a groupie!), but like others, I have just begun to explore your writings, so please make them all still available for reading and downloading. I’m feeling a bit anxious too. Daylight Atheism is bar none the best site I’ve found for reading and conversation with other atheists from all over the world. I am hoping this change will not change that! I would hate to see your particular approach get swallowed up in some larger venue. However, I understand that you have branched out and are probably swamped in terms of time in keeping up with this and your other new ventures.

So there you have it. My mixed feelings about something you haven’t even announced yet.

Me and you are going to become monks and devote our lives to brewing (and drinking) beer?

  • Scotlyn

Just wishing there was some discernible difference between summer and autumn on these Irish shores, but no…all the same old grey and stormy, with bouts of cloudy…anyway, also waiting with bated (and “baited”) breath…

You and your wife are going to have a baby and you need to hide from your atheist friends for the usual reason, until baby outgrows the most toothsome phase.

  • http://krissthesexyatheist.blogspot.com krissthesexyatheist

Awh buddy, that doesn’t sound good for us. well, good luck.
