New Translation on Ebon Musings

I forgot to post this one along with the other translations that went up recently, but I'm happy to add that Ebon Musings now has a Portuguese translation of "All Possible Worlds". Thanks to Petrucio for the effort (and the pictures). … [Read more...]

New Translations on Ebon Musings

I'm happy to announce that new translations have been posted for several of my articles on Ebon Musings, representing not one, not two, but three languages. My devious plan for world conquest is proceeding exactly on schedule!First up, a Greek translation of "Unmoved Mover", complementing the previously posted translation of "A Ghost in the Machine". Thanks to EvanT for both of these! He's got his own blog too.Next, another translation of Ghost in the Machine, as well as a three-part … [Read more...]

Poll and Feedback: Proposed Advertising Policy

Since the beginning, I've resisted having paid ads on Daylight Atheism. But I'm wondering if the time has come to change that, and I'd like to know what readers think of the idea.I've been thinking about this because, lately, I've been getting a more-than-usual number of e-mails from strangers who want me to promote their projects or give them financial help. The other week, there was one from a liberal Christian pastor who deplored how right-wing Christianity has become and wanted my help to … [Read more...]

On the Treatment of Guest Authors

Hi folks,Now that I'm rested, I've been catching up on the posts written by my guest authors, as well as the 200+ comments they attracted. I'm mostly up to date now, and I have to say a few things about the way they were treated. In particular, I want to speak to Leah's posts on mockery as a component of atheist strategy. I knew as soon as I saw those posts that they'd draw some sharp ripostes, which is fine. I'm not averse to people disagreeing with my guest authors - as some commenters … [Read more...]

I Have Returned

By EbonmuseGreetings, all. I'm back safely from Spain - actually, I was back yesterday, but pretty much went right to bed when I got home to sleep off the jet lag and recover from general sleep deprivation. (You see, we were in Barcelona on Saturday night, which was when the home team won an important soccer match. The people were very enthusiastic in their public displays of approval, resulting in neither my wife nor I getting much sleep the night before our flight...)In any case, I'm … [Read more...]

Meet Your Guest Admins

As I mentioned earlier this month, today is my first anniversary, and to celebrate, my wife and I are taking a vacation abroad. (We'll be going to Spain, where hopefully I'll be able to avoid the vicious hordes of elderly Catholics.) We'll be away from this coming Friday until Memorial Day weekend, and I'll probably have limited internet access. But never fear, Daylight Atheism won't go dark while I'm gone. I've found some guest editors to keep an eye on the site, approve comments, and write new … [Read more...]

Call for Guest Admins

As regular readers might remember, I got married last May. Well, I'm fast approaching my first anniversary (holy cow, it's been almost a year already?!), and MissCherryPi and I are planning to go on a trip to Spain later this month, the week of May 22, to celebrate.Since I'll likely have very limited internet access and less time for writing while I'm away, I'd like to find a few capable individuals who can write guest posts, approve comments, and generally keep Daylight Atheism lively in my … [Read more...]

Poll and Open Thread: Social Media

A while back, I put a social media widget from AddThis on the site (the "Bookmark/Share This" link at the bottom of each post). I've been checking its analytics and found that it hardly gets any use at all, so I think it's about time to terminate that experiment. However, I haven't decided what to replace it with, and I'm wondering if you all have any opinions. What social media sites do you use? Which ones have the largest atheist communities generally? I've had some success with StumbleUpon, … [Read more...]

Daylight Atheism: Anniversary #5

As of today, I've officially been doing this blogging thing for five years. Hard to believe, isn't it?An anniversary seems like a good time to reflect on statistics, so here are some numbers. Since February 2006, Daylight Atheism has had 1,265 posts, 42,573 comments, and 7.8 million total views, representing about 1.2 million unique visitors. So far this year, I'm averaging over 11,000 total hits and over 3,000 unique visitors per day, which is well above the historical norm. As of today, the … [Read more...]

New Translation on Ebon Musings

Several of the major essays on Ebon Musings have been translated into French and Spanish by much-appreciated volunteers, but I'm really pleased to announce this new one: a Greek translation of "A Ghost in the Machine", contributed by EvanT of On the Way to Ithaca. Thanks, Evan, for your dedication and hard work!Evan also informs me that he's translating Thomas Paine's The Age of Reason into Greek; you can see the results of that effort here. We have reason to believe that this is the first … [Read more...]
