Two brothers ordained priests the same day

When was the last time this happened?

Details:

Bishop Kevin Rhoades ordained Deacons Matthew Coonan and Terrence “Tink” Coonan, Jr.  into Catholic priesthood in a ceremony Saturday morning.

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Fort Wayne was packed for the ordination. The brothers both hold bachelor’s degrees in sacred theology and master of divinity degrees.

“I knew the cathedral would be full. These are two popular guys and also so many people in our Diocese are excited about today,” Bishop Kevin Rhoades said.

The brothers are currently members of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Fort Wayne. They both graduated from Bishop Dwenger High School and earned bachelor’s degrees in sacred theology and master of divinity degrees.

The brothers were ordained transitional deacons at Josephinum on April 25, 2010.
