As noted earlier, this is believed to be the largest ordination class this year in the United States —maybe, in fact, in the world.

The Diocese of Allentown has published a photo gallery of the ordination. Check it out here.

Details:

“Together we thank Father, Son and Holy Spirit for this unique and historic moment of the New Evangelization,” said Bishop John Barres, who ordained 47 men to the permanent diaconate April 25 at St. Thomas More, Allentown.

“The ordination of 47 permanent deacons today to serve the people of God in the vibrant parishes of the Diocese of Allentown is a sign of the Holy Spirit’s dynamic movement among us.

“We ask the intercession of Our Lady, Queen of the New Evangelization, for these newly ordained permanent deacons and all permanent deacons, their wives and their families.”

This year the Diocese of Allentown has the blessing and distinction of having the largest permanent diaconate class – 47 men – in the country, according to the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) Foundation at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.
