Last week, I taught a class about the first chapter of Genesis – “Let there be light” – to make the point that we as human beings use the same steps of creation in our lives that God used to create the world.
What caught my attention this time was the very end of the story. On the seventh day, God rested.
The idea of a Sabbath is built into most of the world’s religions. It’s one of the Ten Commandments. It was important enough that the ancient Hebrews said they would impose the death penalty for breaking the Sabbath. Later, Jesus got into trouble for healing someone on the Sabbath.
The non-religious definition of “Sabbath” is simply a day of rest.
Are you allowing a day of rest into your weeks? (Click Continue to keep reading and see the Sabbath picture gallery.)
