3 Spiritual Truths to Put Near Your Computer

3 Spiritual Truths to Put Near Your Computer February 4, 2016

Next to my computer sits a copy stand that my sister gave me years ago. I don’t use it much for its intended purpose.

Instead, it has become a handy place to park spiritual sayings or bits of wisdom that hit me at just the right time. I print them out in big type and set them in full view, where I can be reminded of them through the day.

This past month, I’ve been cleaning my office with more diligence than ever. In fact, I’ve been able to see the top of my desk for a record three weeks in a row now. (To be fair, we were on vacation for one of those weeks).

In the process, I discovered a deep well of wisdom on that copy stand that I hadn’t looked at for a long time.

These are bits of spiritual truths that resonate for me, and I think they might for you, too. So, here are three of my favorites, ready to print out and put next to your computer.

1. Don’t wait to ask. Ask now. This one has special significance for anyone who is reticent to ask for help, which includes everyone who feels less than deserving or thinks they’re supposed to have all the answers.

We may be embarrassed to ask for help from the people around us. And more important, we forget to ask for help from the vast resources of Spirit.

That’s why I like these two sentences, which are direct and simple: Don’t wait to ask. Ask now. If we’re going to receive help from a higher power, we need to put in a request, demonstrating our willingness to receive. And whether we’re asking for something we need or something we want, we deserve to be answered. Why delay?

2. Do all the steps. Do them in order. Do not skip to the end. This series of directives showed up during three separate dreams January 1, 2015. I couldn’t forget them because they were drilled into my mind during the night, and I woke up saying them out loud. And since they showed up on the first day of the year, I figured they carried special significance.

The only problem was, I wasn’t sure which steps. Steps to what? To the book that would be published later in the year? To letting go of other projects so I could spend more time with my husband? To taking down the Christmas decorations or loading the dishwasher?

That part wasn’t explained to me, but I eventually learned why. The three directives apply to everything.

It’s easy to get so caught up in excitement, enthusiasm, multitasking or fear that we start leapfrogging, skipping around and never completing what we set out to do.

There’s something in these three statements that calms me and slows me down. They remind me that spiritual growth and human accomplishments are not about rushing with wild-eyed enthusiasm, but about being intentional, disciplined and steadfast, listening to guidance to discern the next right action.

3. Give your mind to God. This one actually showed up at the A Course in Miracles class I taught last night. One of the students, Jo, used this phrase during a lively discussion, and it hit me like a whack on the side of the head.

A Course in Miracles talks about thinking with the mind of God and being part of the mind of God. But there’s something in this particular wording—Give your mind to God—that put a whole new spin on it

In a way, giving my mind to God is like giving a leaf to the tree that created it. My mind came from God, so giving it to the Divine is simply acknowledging its rightful place.

When I give my mind to God, I’m giving it to Love—not so I will be mindless, but so I can be wholly mindful.

There you go. Three spiritual truths to put in front of you wherever you’ll see them most. Do with them what you will. And if you have a favorite of your own, be sure to share it in Comments.

Blessings,

Deb
