Robert O'Brien Nominee: Rick Santorum

Here’s Rick Santorum in an interview with Tony Perkins:

Santorum: Yeah. They want to force their worldview on us and they’re using this idea of ‘equality,’ which is absurd. This has nothing to do with how two people want to live their lives. It has everything to do with an agenda that is ultimately going to destroy the family, weaken the family and weaken our religious liberties in this country. This is going to transform, you know, the left is very enthusiastic about this agenda because it is an opportunity to get after the things that they see standing in the way of them taking control, more control of your lives, which is the family and the church. And so what better to do that than by destroying the institution of marriage and by saying anybody who opposes them is a bigot and therefore, and that includes people in the clergy.

You see, on Planet Wingnuttia, using the law to prevent gays from getting married increases liberty, while allowing them to do so means more government control. Also on that planet, allowing gays to get married destroys all straight marriages. Any similarities between Wingnuttia and Earth are entirely non-existent.

Today must be a tough day for you picking just one nominee with the GOP debate and Mittenz claiming the S&P 500 is really not any different from a social club. (“Corporations are people, my friend.”)

“Allowing gays to get married destroys families! Ignore the fact that the very act of getting married is so one can create a family. Ignore the fact that a straight marriage that buckles cause Jim and Jerry got married wasn’t rock-solid. No, it’s all those gay barbecues we have to go to! I mean come on, how many times do I have to tell them I don’t want my hamburger that bloody rare!”

    @ Mr. Ed

I saw something about the Mitt’s “Corporations are people” remark.

Funny thing is, that crowd insists that the one ultimate difference between people and animals is that people have a soul. So obviously Romney is claiming that somehow corporations have souls, since that is the distinguishing characteristic of people. Very interesting.

Rick Santorum: “they’re using this idea of ‘equality,’ which is absurd.

    Context? Who needs context?

  • Dennis N

To defend Romney (it took roughly 5 minutes to force my hands to type those words), in the context, he meant that corporations are made up of people, are collections of people making decisions about profit, not in the legal sense that corporations are legally people.

Yeah, ’cause gays aren’t people, right?

“According to Ford’s estimates, the unsafe tanks would cause 180 burn deaths, 180 serious burn injuries, and 2,100 burned vehicles each year. It calculated that it would have to pay $200,000 per death, $67,000 per injury, and $700 per vehicle, for a total of $49.5 million. However, the cost of saving lives and injuries ran even higher: alterations would cost $11 per car or truck, which added up to $137 million per year. Essentially, Ford argued before the government that it would be cheaper just to let their customers burn!

“The cheapest method involves placing a heavy rubber bladder inside the gas tank to keep the fuel from spilling if the tank ruptures. Goodyear had developed the bladder and had demonstrated it to the automotive industry. Ford Motor Company ran a rear-end crash test on a car with the rubber bladder in the gas tank. The tank ruptured, but no fuel leaked. On January 15, 1971, Ford again tested the bladder and again it worked. The total purchase and installation cost of the bladder would have been $5.08 per car. That $5.08 could have saved the lives several hundred people.” —

I somehow figured out that corporations are made up of people. But they exist for one reason — to maximize profits. For another example, see coal mining companies and their excellent safety records.

People within the corporate culture operate in a vastly different manner than individuals. There may even be ethical people in companies, but rarely does that result in companies acting in an ethical manner.

  • Tualha

Who is forcing their worldview on whom? Are gays demanding any control over other peoples’ marriages or families? No; only their own. It is the religious right that is demanding control over other peoples’ marriages and families. What religious liberties does Santorum mean – the liberty to control what others may do? No one is suggesting that conservative Christians must change their views; only that they may not impose their views on others.

Fifth Dentist “There may even be ethical people in companies, but rarely does that result in companies acting in an ethical manner.”

Ah, but of course you never hear about all the times that their customers don’t die horribly in cheaply preventable fires! Damn that Liberal Media bias!

  • Doug Little

    Fifth Dentist,

I have seen something similar in the tire manufacturing sector. It was cheaper for the company to payout the families of workers killed by unsafe equipment than to upgrade the equipment to make it safe. I wish I could find the article, we covered it way back in 4th year engineering when we had to do some law courses, specifically negligence.

You know who else talked about “The Family” a lot?

    That’s right. Charles Manson.

  • Aquaria

They want to force their worldview on us

As opposed to you with your braindead Christarder delusion, which you’re determined to vomit all everything. Totes different!

and they’re using this idea of ‘equality,’ which is absurd.

Says the guy with the braindead Christarder delusion that is totes cool with slavery. Read your hate manual, fuckface. Oh. Wait. You’re part of the child-rapist cult. You let a child-rape-enabling crock in a frock tell you what’s the book says.

This has nothing to do with how two people want to live their lives.

    Even though it has.

It has everything to do with an agenda that is ultimately going to destroy the family, weaken the family

If you cared about protecting “the family”, you wouldn’t be a Republitard scumbag who supports policies that makes the lives of ordinary families more difficult than they have to be, fuckface.

weaken our religious liberties in this country.

    1) Because your braindead Christarder delusion was totes about liberty when it was in charge, you fucking asshole.

    2) A lot of religious people and even religious denominations support homosexuals getting married now. What about their liberties? Oh–right–you don’t care about those.

    Lying, hypocritical scumbag.

This is going to transform, you know, the left

You wouldn’t know the left if you were surrounded by a collective informing you that supreme executive power is derived from the masses, not from some aquatic ceremony.

the left is very enthusiastic about this agenda because it is an opportunity to get after the things that they see standing in the way of them taking control, more control of your lives, which is the family and the church.

By oddly telling people that they can decide which gender they can marry, rather than letting a bunch of self-righteous scumbag prudes like you legislating who they can marry.

It’s called liberty, you fucking Vatican-poisoned moron.

And so what better to do that than by destroying the institution of marriage

Oddly, by letting more people get married, if they want to, and married to who they want to be married to, rather than a lie of a marriage. Yeah, that’s so fucking healthy for marriage, you sick fuck.

and by saying anybody who opposes them is a bigot

    Truth hurts, doesn’t it?

and therefore, and that includes people in the clergy.

What defines a homophobic bigot scumbag is being a homophobic bigot scumbag, not what one’s job happens to be. Do fucking keep up.

  • Aquaria

Now, look, I previewed, and it came out fine. Why is it messed up when it prints?

  • John Hinkle

    Aquaria:

What if it involved a watery tart?
