Being a politician means never saying you ever got anything wrong and nothing demonstrates that as perfectly as Michele Bachmann’s continued tap dance on Gardasil being dangerous. During the most recent debate she was asked whether she had reconsidered her claims about how dangerous the vaccine is and she simply lied. Here’s the question that was asked:
“Do you stand by your statement that the HPV vaccine is potentially dangerous, and if not, should you be more careful when talking about public health issues?” Wallace asked.
And her answer:
“I didn’t make that claim, nor did I make that statement,” Bachmann began. “Immediately after the debate, a mother came up to me and she was visibly shaken and heartbroken because of what her daughter had gone through, so I only related what her story was.”
No you didn’t. You used that story as the basis of your very next sentence during that interview, which was, “It can have very dangerous side effects.” And during the debate before that interview, she called it a “potentially dangerous drug.” She’s said it repeatedly and it’s on video where everyone can see it. So she’s just lying when she says she didn’t make that claim.
