Wisconsin Conservatives Plan Real Voter Fraud

We hear constantly about virtually non-existent voter fraud from the right wing — a transparent excuse for policies that make it more difficult for people, especially poor and minority voters, to cast their votes — but Politiscoop has screenshots of Tea Party types on Facebook wanting to commit real voter fraud by destroying recall petitions signed by Wisconsin voters.

In one facebook post a user named Charles Atlas Shrugging begins the plan by saying “I’d like to collect signatures of those who want to recall Walker…so I can have something to feed my shredder..”

In another such post Matt Wynns who claims to be a small business owner states “I shall be heating my home with recall signature. as they sign, I’ll make sure to tell them not to sign another petition. I figure I can get a hundred to a few hundred signatures off the ballot. F*#&* (Word edited) Liberals.

The list of disgusting posts go on, even after a user reminded each and every one of them that their plans would violate Wisconsin statutes.

Destroying petitions rather than turning them in is a felony. Whether any of the people who left those comments can or will actually do so remains to be seen. But those who are circulating those petitions had better be on their toes and do some research on their volunteers.

  • Yep, conservatards sure are consistent in their love and respect for the Constitution and biblical standards of honesty! What wonderful Americans they all are, and we are fortunate to have their kind in control of one of our two major political parties.

So, which excuse do we think will get the most play:

“Those aren’t real conservatives! Start taking things seriously, liberals!”

    – or –

“They’s just foolin’! Quit taking everything so seriosuly, liberals!”

  • D. C. Sessions

    Anri@3: all of the above.

Well, that’s not quite fair. There are honorable and sensible conservatives; John E. Jones III, the judge who ruled for the plaintiffs in the Dover creationism case, comes immediately to mind, and Ed has cited others whose names I don’t recall (David Frum is one, I think).

The problem is not conservatives; the problem is right-wing yahoos, as exemplified by the Tea Party, who don’t understand democracy or civil rights, have no respect for those who disagree with them, and have no interest in facts or logic. The problem, more widely, is the kind of sneaky, rich conservative who encourages such behavior to get what they want and don’t care what it does to the country: the people who run Fox, the Koch brothers, and certain other billionaires.

And, of course, the fundamental problem is that the GOP has decided it has to listen to these cranks to get elected, and that getting elected is the most important thing. So now the GOP is being overrun with politicians in the Palin/Bachmann/Cain mold; Tea-Party material, with more money and a little more polish.

When will the sensible conservatives in this country realize that their once-proud party has fallen into the hands of lunatics? And what will they do about it when they do realize?

    @Anari:

You forgot the third, most likely, option:

“THE LIB-RULZ COMMIT VOTER FRUAD CONSTANTLY!!! WHY SHOULDN’T WE?! IT’S ONLY FAIR!!!”

As usual, Garry Trudeau nails it:

Vote GOP. Duh. They’ll still get their tax cuts and deregulation. In any event, the really sensible ones (formerly “Mod Republicans”) are called “Democrats” now.

For your answer, have a look at David Frum. He makes no bones about the clowndidates being somewhere in the Republican Triangle: between totally gormless, insane, and actively malicious. And that’s causing him great pain knowing that he’s going to vote for one of them.

  • I hope this was forawrded t the FBI, Wisconsin Bureau of Law Enforcement, and the Wisconsin Supervisor of Elections… if not, I hope someone does it now.

And that’s causing him great pain knowing that he’s going to vote for one of them.

That raises an issue of integrity. If he’s as pained by these people as you say he is, then the only reason to vote for one is because of tribal loyalty. A man of actual integrity would not vote for one. He doesn’t have to vote for a Democrat, but to vote for someone who is “totally gormless, insane, and actively malicious” is putting party ahead of country.

Well, somewhere in that triangle anyway. And he apparently has no higher justification than party loyalty — born Republican, vote Republican, die Republican. I’m minded of the yellow-dog Democrats of days gone by.

Then again, he lives in Canada now. Make of that what you will.

When will the sensible conservatives in this country realize that their once-proud party has fallen into the hands of lunatics? And what will they do about it when they do realize?

So what makes someone a “sensible conservative” in today’s USA?

What would a sensible conservative believe?

Are the following sensible ideas – lower taxes for the wealthy, less social safety net, less affordable and accessible education, less people able to get health care, more military spending, more non-defensive wars, global warming denial, gutting environmental regulations, lower wages, more executions, more incarceration, harsher treatment for non-violent offenders, more private prisons, more mercenaries, more erosion of basic civil rights?

And if those ideas aren’t sensible, what would a “sensible” conservative believe to make themselves “conservative”? Incidentally, ill-defined propaganda pablum for imbeciles like “smaller government” or “lower taxes” isn’t an answer. Smaller than what? What parts reduced? What are the expected outcomes of such policy? Etc.

Now, if by “sensible conservative”, you mean “right wing asshole who is arguably mildly less insane than some other current right wing assholes”, that’s fine, but it would make more sense to use that terminology.

Or perhaps you meant “Joe Biden is an example of a sensible conservative; the Democratic Party is very conservative by the dictionary definition of that word, and the Republicans are radical”. If you meant that, I’d agree, but then what would David Frum have to do with it?

What are the policy stances of a “sensible conservative”?

  • I’ve been calling the KKKrazzeepants Asshole SKKKrotalMerKKKinPatriotiKKK Front types what they are for years, reactionaries and fascists.

They have no respect, none, for anyone else’s point of view, beliefs or laws. They are worse than small children who, although they whine, wave their hands and make nonsensical arguments in attempting to get what they want–control of the world–do not carry gunz.

Rightwing assholes are, as harold notes, precisely what the teabaggers pretty much turn out to be. Yes, that includes the little old ladies and the bright young college students as well as the Joe Sixshooters in the group. When your against basic decency toward other human beings, racist, anti-societal and intolerant–you’re an asshole.

  • I doubt these idiots are going to do anything but post about it on Facebook, but anyone can get those petitions, print them off and off and collect signatures. It wouldn’t be difficult, even for these idiots. I signed one already, but I’ll probably sign a second just in case. Or just print one off and send it in myself.
