Romney Lies About Obama Jobs Statement

Romney Lies About Obama Jobs Statement November 23, 2011

A new Romney campaign ad quotes President Obama as saying, “if we keep talking about the economy, we’re going to lose.” But Obama was actually quoting a McCain strategist, not making that statement himself. But you’d never know it from watching the ad.

But I think there’s a simple explanation for this. You see, Romney has been on every side of every issue over the years, often taking totally contradictory positions within a remarkably short period of time. So there is no distinction in his mind between a position taken by one person and the position taken by their opponent. The opponent’s position is just your own position you haven’t taken yet.

My reaction was that the Romney campaign was trying to convince the GOP primary voting base he’ll never move off the conservative reservation by symbolically burning bridges with non-conservatives. Here we see Romney ‘lying for Jesus’, a characteristic highly valued by conservative Christians and many other conservative voters who care about loyalty to the group and not a whit about character or competence. Blatantly lying about those hated by the tribe has enriched and empowered an increasing number of conservative politicians, at an increasing rate.

Since it’s so early in the ’12 election season, I’m also speculating that he doesn’t think his purposeful lying in a campaign speech will even be noted or considered once he’s in the general election season, i.e., his burning bridges will only occur with an insignificant few. So there’s no real downside risk with a lot of upside potential, especially given the free publicity the media will give him noting he’s lying.

No one’s going to check the source of the quote, anyway. As Rick Perry’s ad points out, Obama said Americans are lazy.

Of course, point this out to any Republican thinking of voting for Romney and they’ll reply that Obama lies a lot, too. About his administration being the MOST TRANSPARENT EVAR. About whistleblowers. Probably about other things. So if it’s a question of voting for Romney or Obama, their honesty or lack thereof isn’t much of a decision factor.

Tualha “About his administration being the MOST TRANSPARENT EVAR. About whistleblowers.”

What? They don’t care about that piffle. They barely even got their faux-dander up when he started assasinating American citizens. They love government power, the more opaque to outsiders and brutal to those who won’t comply, the better.

The only type of government they don’t like is one that helps those below them on the economic ladder and one that doesn’t go around the world randomly punching people in the face (and, by definition, that’s a Democratic party government).

…am I mistaken, or is this a new early for a new low?
