Secular Women Form New Organization

Secular Woman is a new organization formed to “amplify the voice, presence, and influence of non-religious women.” Sounds like a great idea to me. They’re just getting off the ground, but I an optimistic that they will be a powerful voice in the secular movement very quickly. Here’s an introductory video:

About Ed Brayton

After spending several years touring the country as a stand up comedian, Ed Brayton tired of explaining his jokes to small groups of dazed illiterates and turned to writing as the most common outlet for the voices in his head. He has appeared on the Rachel Maddow Show and the Thom Hartmann Show, and is almost certain that he is the only person ever to make fun of Chuck Norris on C-SPAN.

Secular women form new org called Secular *Woman*.

  • Michael Heath

It’d be interesting to understand any dialogue they had in regards to limiting their group to non-religious women, rather than also recruiting religious women who support a secular government.

@1 – Ohhhh boy. I’ve been reading that as “women” for the past two days now. Embarrassing. :$

I’m one of the founders of Secular Woman. I just wanted to say thanks for blogging about us!

(And thanks to Ibis3 for catching the spelling error.)

  • Modusoperandi

Are they forming in to one giant woman, or is it a regular sized position and they each take turns?

  • stuartvo

    One giant woman, kinda Voltron-ish.

Go ahead, MRAs. Cat-call her. Patronise her. Grab her ass (if you can reach that high.) I dare ya!

Excellent news, and I hope this is part of a trend to encourage more participation from all underrepresented groups, not only within the secular community, but also in the sciences, etc. Much better than that patronizing video from a week or two ago (I can’t remember if it was Dutch or what have you); I wish you all the best in support. The more representative this community can become compared to society at large, the more authentically society-wide the community can speak and act.
