Amanda Marcotte writes at Slate about some old C-SPAN videos of speeches by Todd Akin that reveal that his opposition to reproductive rights is far creepier than you probably know. During one speech on the House floor, he argued that stem cell research would lead to a dark dystopia where people are just numbers, a story written by his own daughter:
My own daughter wrote a little story—I will read it—about step three. “I live with 40 others in a compound, supervised by cool, efficient orderlies. Instead of playing, I stood pondering a troubling dream from the night before. It was of a loving father, giving his child a name. I’ve always been just 5-25-61-B.”
Seriously, what kind of festering fever swamp must one’s mind be to come up with bullshit like that? He also called abortion providers “terrorists” and said that they enjoy performing abortions on women who aren’t pregnant. The whole thing is absolutely twisted and you can view the video at the link above. Anyone who really believes that his idiotic claim about women not getting pregnant from a rape was just him “misspeaking” is living in a fantasy world every bit as crazy as the one he actually lives in.
