Marriage Equality Doesn’t Just Make the Baby Jesus Cry

Here’s a video from Truth in Action and the Family Research Council encouraging people to “vote their values” to stop same-sex marriage. The video shows that not only does marriage equality make the baby Jesus cry, it makes a poor dad cry at the thought that his children are learning that gay people exist and have families and they shouldn’t be mistreated for that fact.

It starts with Tony Perkins making the bizarre argument that advocates of marriage quality are trying to “redefine marriage out of existence.” It’s so weird how the wingnuts always separate marriage from any actual marriages. Whose marriage is going to be “redefined out of existence”? No one’s, of course. And it ends with a plea to “vote your values,” which I agree with. I value equality. I value families headed by gay people just as much as I value families headed by straight people. Those are far better values than bigotry and discrimination.

*whispers* I love the typo “quality.” All marriages should be quality, and if not, divorce is always an option. I’m also for marriage equality quality. :)

    Homophobic Bigots video asks :

    Will the trend continue?

Answer : Yes – get used to it.

    Its not teh End o’th’Wurld.

    Its actually a good thing.

One day hopefully sooner rather than later opponents of equal marriage rights for gays will be viewed as we now view opponents of interracial marriages.

Oh & Obama will win the 2012 election too!

It was very considerate of the organizations promoting the video to include in their names the words that most reliably indicate “bullshit to follow”: “truth”, and “family”.

I’ve always thought that folks like these need some time living in a different culture. It’s much harder to hold their views when you’re not in the majority.

I can’t tell you how much it pisses me off that so many hate groups have put “family” in the name of their organization. Just last night I was watching TV and an ad for a local charity event came on. The charity included family in its name and when they announced in the “brought to you by…” I cringed. It sounded like a perfectly nice event, put on by perfectly nice charity. They have no anti-gay agenda I’m aware of. Yet simply having family in their name was enough to make me react as if I’d just seen the Klan announce it would be hosting a street fair. For me, the bigots have turned the word family into symbol of hate and oppression. All I can say is, those are not my family’s values.

We really should go back to the old traditional marriage which was arranged without the participant’s permission and was for life or until the huband beat the wife to death or she died in childbirth. That was so much better.

    Abby Normal @ 5,

You expressed both my sentiment and reaction exactly.

Um, the KKK has renamed itself Family First Freedom Family Family.

@Abby: It’s a few years late, but 1984 has finally arrived. It’s a beautiful thing, the destruction of words.

I am going to write a book called “Heather Has Two Mommies and They are all going to Hell!” I think I could sell tons of copies to the anti-gay crowd.

I initially misread “I value families headed by gay people” as “I value families herded by gay people”, maybe these loonies have done the same and the whole thing has grown up as a result of a misunderstanding, a sort of plectrum/vectron thing…

So. Much. Fail. On knees for Jesus. And then he pulled a Glen Beck. “*Sob* I’m unable to shield my children from reality and force feed them bigotry!” And they actually showed nice rainbow-coloured gay-pride protests as “evil”. Once you take off the bible-tinted “eww, buttsecks, gross” glasses, you just can’t put them back on again.

An Anthropology class works wonders too.
