The National Center for Science Education has announced the winners of the 2013 Friend of Darwin awards. I think this is a change in the way they give out such awards. The tradition has been to ambush people at conferences and give them the award when they least expect it. That’s how I got mine. This year’s winners: Baba Brinkman, Jay Labov and Sean Carroll (the biologist, not the cosmologist). Which prompts an obvious question: How the hell did I get this award before Sean Carroll?
