O’Keefe Settles Suit for $100,000

James O’Keefe, Robin to Andrew Breitbart’s Batman, has reached a financial settlement in a lawsuit filed over his infamous “expose`” on ACORN where he dressed as the least convincing and most ridiculous pimp in history. Juan Carlos Vera, one of the people illegally recorded in that video, was fired from his job even though he had, in fact, called the police on the fake “pimp.”

According to the settlement, O’Keefe — or his gullible right wing sugar daddies — has to pay Vera $100,000 and issue a not-pology.

According to a copy of the deal, obtained late last night by your wonkettes and viewable after the jump, O’Keefe has also agreed to ink an 11-word non-apology apology, that sources close to reality are calling “insincere” and “suuuuuuuch bullshit.”

According to the final 5-page agreement, signed by O’Keefe and his legal counsel Mike Madigan this past Tuesday, the boy detective now publicly “regrets any pain suffered by Mr. Vera or his family.” O’Keefe and his counsel have also consented to fork over the $100,000 within 30 business days of the settlement agreement’s being signed.

The recording itself was illegal, never mind the dishonest editing of it. And I think he should have tacked on an extra $50,000 just for having to look at O’Keefe in this outfit:

Is there any chance of Fox being sued too?

$100,000? Barely a dent in their petty cash; a stern glance would be more of a punishment. Not a bad price for ruining a progressive’s life and reputation, AND destroying one of the major advocates for the underpriviledged.

And I think he should have tacked on an extra $50,000 just for having to look at O’Keefe in this outfit:

That wouldn’t have worked – among the things that this lawsuit established was the fact that O’Keefe wasn’t actually wearing that outfit when he went there, that footage was edited in later to make the whole thing look even more outrageous. All in all $ 100,000 does seem like the lower end of the scale, though, for a lost job and a reputation damaged on the national stage.

So how many crimes does he have to commit before he’s treated like the rest of us would be?

  • oranje

He fits in well with the right-wing pantheon of fools. Look absurd, make yourself the story, and be lauded for your integrity and credibility. So odd through that particular looking glass.

O’Keefe is a FOX media ‘personality’, right? His show has advertisers and sponsors, right?

Such a nice show, It’d be a shame if anything bad should happen to it.

And by dressing like that when he was on Fox, O’Keefe was misleadingly giving the impression that he was wearing the same clothes we wore during his ACORN visits.

Thanks for the link Raven. Last I heard, despite violating his parole and multiple serious malfeasances, he’s managed to avoid jail time for any of it.

But the job was doomed to disappear anyway, since that video led to the shutdown of ACORN nationwide.

Hmmm – maybe all the ex-employees of ACORN need to file a class action suit…
