Another Great Keyes Rant

Alan Keyes is apparently still upset that he got pummeled like a cheater in a prison poker game by Barack Obama when he carpetbagged into Illinois in 2004 to run against him for the Senate. In a recent radio show he called Obama a narcissistic, totalitarian, semi-psychotic communist.

About Ed Brayton

After spending several years touring the country as a stand up comedian, Ed Brayton tired of explaining his jokes to small groups of dazed illiterates and turned to writing as the most common outlet for the voices in his head. He has appeared on the Rachel Maddow Show and the Thom Hartmann Show, and is almost certain that he is the only person ever to make fun of Chuck Norris on C-SPAN.

Obama a narcissistic, totalitarian, semi-psychotic communist.

So, basically, he’s calling Obama an amateur.

What is up with Republicans and their refusal to acknowledge that words actually have meanings beyond a fuzzy cloud of “good thing” and “bad thing”

If Keyes hates you or your activity, you have arrived. The mark of reality success.

  • kylawyer

Except for the communist part, I’d say Keyes got the projection down pat.

  • cry4turtles

I think our president ought to be able to defend himself from idiots like Keyes. Just Barack and his slanderer, behind closed doors. I think there would be an ass whoopin’, and Mr. Obama exiting the room-smiling.

To borrow the gist of Eric Stonestreet’s unrelated comment- Turns out, Alan Keyes didn’t die sad and alone several years ago. Nope. He’s alive and starving for attention, so lets stop giving him any.

Now be fair, Ed. I’m pretty sure Keyes would be saying hateful things about Obama even he hasn’t been beaten like drum in the 2004 race.

I’m from Illinois. The Obama/Keyes exchanges in the run-up to the election are easily some of my favorite political memories. If pompous clowns have a king, it’s the Keyester. He is another good example of a black Republican that is wholly unattractive to black people. Granted, he is wholly unattractive to virtually everyone, but his actions in 2004 were repugnant. I was driving home from Ikea that day when they were announcing that Obama had won easily, but Keyes refused to give a concession speech.

I don’t think he ever did.

kylawyer@5: Keep in mind that to conservatives, “Communist” is just another word for “totalitarian”–they don’t even see a distinction between Stalin and Hitler, despite obvious differences in their approaches (both men were monsters, but monsters of a different species). So yeah, projecting there, too.

chrislrob: Likewise on remembering that race well. I still say that the GOP deciding to let Obama have open access to the Senate after Kirk’s campaign imploded is what let Obama win the Dem Primary–he got to go to other states and campaign for Democrats in tighter races, because he had his own election so well in the bag. That makes for some handy favor-markers to call in later.

President Obama already enjoys those walks, which was further re-affirmed after beating Mitt Romney in Nov. I had no reason to begrudge John McCain ill in 2008, but man I love the fact that every time Sarah Palin appears, I know my man and America’s favorite garrulous uncle whooped her ass, and Joe Farah’s, and Bryan Fischer’s, and Michele Bachmann’s, and Justices Alito, Thomas, and Scalia, and so on and on.

Well, be fair – even if Obama was the evil madman the teabaggers portray him as, he still couldn’t compete with Alan Keyes.
