Innocence Project of Texas Gets FBB Grant

The Foundation Beyond Belief has announced its grant recipients for the second quarter of 2013 and I’m very happy to note that one of the recipients is the Innocence Project of Texas (Disclaimer: I am the Media Relations Coordinator for FBB, but have no input into which groups get grants). Longtime readers of this blog know that I am passionate about criminal justice issues and there is no bigger issue than the conviction of innocent people.

I’m surprised Gov Goodhair would allow such a thing to exist after he effectively ended the committee into whether or not an innocent man was executed under his governorship (FYI the committee was about to say “yes” when it got shut down).

I’ve been a supporter of the Innocence Project for a long time. Congratulations to FBB for an excellent choice, and of course to the IP for all that it does.

I am a Texan and I gotta tell you this is where this effort is needed most. Won’t save Todd Willingham though, the last victim of the Satanic Panics of the 90’s. At least I hope he is the last victim. The West Memphis Three got out of the system, but there may be others pending execution I don’t know about.
