Magic Gives the American Decency Association a Sad

I was very happy to see Magic Johnson come out strongly in favor of equality after his son went public about his homosexuality last week. But the American Decency Association — little more than a post office box in a town about an hour from me — is quite upset about it. Apparently Magic’s words are going to make us all have sex with our pets. Or something.

Would you be proud to hear that your loved one had chosen a life that God calls an abomination? Maybe if you yourself had lived a life of reprobation – and yourself had lost the ability to think and act morally any longer.

If Magic Johnson says he’s proud of his son for being a homosexual does his statement make it right in your heart and mind?…

For those who say there is no God, it’s fine to screw around, play around, commit adultery, engage in homosexuality. There is no right or wrong so do what’s right in your own eyes; do what comes “naturally.” And if what you want to do isn’t considered politically correct today, just wait awhile then it will be okay in the near future. Polygamy? Pedophilia? Same-sex marriage? Beastiality?

What do you mean, MAKE us have sex with out pets? I can’t help that Buddy the Wonderdog is so damned cute! But, he’s a lot fleeter of foot than I am, so he’s safe, for now!

There is, however, a law. And the law presumably reflects some notion of right and wrong.

So tell me, Decency dolts…..what’s the proportion of atheists to theists in prison again?

Accepting an alligator’s offer of a blowjob is a saner act than believing these fruitcakes.

Here’s a novel idea, why not question your beliefs instead? Surely if you love your child and want them to be happy the fact that your particular flavor of religion condemns them should at least get a small defensive rise out of you.

At least they are being honest that their objection to marriage equality is sectarian rather than secular in nature.

Polygamy, as in what those evil people such as Abraham, Issac, David and Solomon practiced?

Pedophilia (where, BTW, is that condemned in the Bible? … I’m sure the Mideonite girls who had not slept with a man would have liked to have known when they were given to the Israelite soldiers) is, of course, just like sex and love between two consenting adults.

Beastiality can involve cruelty to animals but is not otherwise on my list of worst crimes against humanity.

The best argument they can come up with is “eewwww”.

Atheist straw manning should be an Olympic sport.

The minute God comes down and tells me himself what he does or does not consider an abomination, then I’ll pay heed.

    Otherwise…not.

And I doubt that Mr. Johnson is proud of his son for being gay, per se, but rather for having the courage to come out publicly when there is still quite a bit of stigma attached, especially to public or quasi-public figures.

  • Synfandel

“Bestiality”, folks, not “beastiality”. That’s why your spell checker puts a squiggly line under it.

I was about to applaud them for declining to mention Johnson’s HIV status. But then I clicked through. Ugh.

Exactly. It’s like being proud of your children because they are hetero.

I wonder if they realize what they are revealing about themselves. Apparently, they must need a power to keep them from sexing up their pets or they won’t project that onto the rest of us.

I agree. They should stick strictly to biblical marriage. I’m currently reading Genesis and Abraham married his half sister. And it gets worse. Abraham had a servant travel to his (Abraham’s) hometown, where he picked out a cousin of Isaac’s for Isaac to marry. Then Jacob traveled back there and got another relative.

It’s enough to make even West Virgianans go “Fuck!”

I mean (pretending those stories are true) OK, after the flood, maybe screw a relative to keep the species going. But those guys were in a land with no relatives anywhere in sight, and nothing would do but to travel a long distance to hook up with close kin.

God disapproves of polygamy and pedophilia? Has this man ever read the Old Testament?

Here is an interview with Johnson where he discusses both talking to his son at age12 and battling homophobia in sports and the African-American community.

  • fastlane

Wait, they’re condemning Magic Johnson, the man reputed to average sex with 300-500 people/year, while married, for supporting his gay son?

    The mind, it boggles.

By the many wives of Abraham, Jacob, David, and Solomon, I will make out with my pet turtle!

(not really, I’m not all that biblical. besides, that book probably thinks my aquatic turtle counts as shell fish)

When I read the headline, I thought it was a pun on the South Park episode where David Blaine the magician creates a rival religion. Seriously, that would have made more sense than the oral emissions from these weirdos.

The day when this man says his moral code depends on how he treats other people, rather than how successfully he carries out the orders of a capricious, cruel, and sexually oppressed invisible king, is the day he is ready to talk to grownups about morality.
