Pratt: Background Checks Will Ban Christians From Owning Guns

Larry Pratt of Gun Owners of America, a group so far to the right that they think the NRA is a bunch of leftist sellouts, went on the Steve Deace show and they agreed that extending background checks for buying a gun to unlicensed dealers will lead to Christians and Republicans being banned from buying guns.

Deace: Am I wrong to be paranoid that Pat Toomey’s new compromise federal background check may one day flag Christians as being dangerous and shouldn’t own weapons because they are part of a domestic hate group?

Pratt: That is certainly something that would suit Janet Napolitano, the head of the “department of homeland insecurity,” she has been publishing materials exactly to that effect. She doesn’t publish anything about how Islam is an inherently violent, murderous religion invented by some Arab imperialist long after the supposed death of Mohammad. No no no, it’s people that take the Constitution literally, people that are pro-life, people that are pro-Second Amendment, probably underscore those people because they have guns and guns are bad if they are outside the hands of anybody under her authority. I think that’s the mindset of too many folks in the federal government, certainly “department of homeland insecurity” has made that very clear when they’ve advised police departments: these are the chaps to look for and I’m sure they were saying if you had a Ron Paul bumper sticker, no doubt one time in the past if you had a Pat Toomey bumper sticker but I think he’s on the approved list now.

They’re simply is no limit to their paranoid delusions. They are always just this close to being thrown in concentration camps. Always.

    OP

Background Checks Will Ban Christians From Owning Guns

    And this is somehow….bad?

Bet the crime rate would plummet!

  • Didaktylos

Pratt by name – prat by nature

So he’s admitting that Christians aren’t fit to bear arms?

  • blf

Islam […was] invented by some Arab imperialist long after the supposed death of Mohammad.

What the feck is that about ?

  • Mr Ed

Very telling, when we say criminals and the mentally ill shouldn’t have guns he hears Christians and Republicans shouldn’t have guns.

So, Larry, you don’t mind if I call you “Larry” do you? It’s either that or “Lying sack of shit fuckdouchenozzle”.

Anyway, Lar, YOUR people are the ones who want to ramp up checking people’s mental health instead of regulating the gunz. Well, if mental health is a defining marker for gunz ownership than I think that delusional people who don’t just BELIEVE in a sky fairy, but believe that he talks DIRECTLY to them and HATEZ ON most non-white folks, well, you can where I’m going…

Am I wrong to be paranoid …

At least he realizes that he is, in fact, paranoid. I wonder if he knows what that word means.

    By the way, this:

Pratt: That is certainly something that would suit Janet Napolitano, the head of the “department of homeland insecurity,”…

(donning my grammar police hat) Am I right to think that the scare quotes should be eliminated, or at least only around the word “insecurity” (to demonstrate sarcasm rather than a mistake)? Unless I’m mistaken, this is a transcript of a verbal exchange, and the quotes cannot be seen unless there is tape showing the speaker with his hands in the air making quote signs.

There really is no bottom of the barrel with these people.

    @ #6:

Point taken, bearing in mind the Dem’s aren’t very far behind.

  • catbutler

people that take the Constitution literally

What the fuck does that mean?

  • Chiroptera

Am I wrong to be paranoid that….

    No, you’re not even wrong.

  • Gvlgeologist, FCD

She doesn’t publish anything about how Christianity Islam is an inherently violent, murderous religion invented by some Roman Arab imperialist long after the supposed death of Christ Mohammad.

“Point taken, bearing in mind the Dem’s aren’t very far behind.”

    “Behind” at what?

  • freemage

catbulter: Why, those who know that Jesus came down from the mountain with the complete transcript of the document and handed it personally to Jefferson, et. al.

blf: Probably trying to deflect from the well-known fact that Christianity as it is today was created by an Imperialist (Roman) centuries after the death of the supposed founder.

anubisprime: Just remember, when it’s a crime for Christians to own guns, the only people who own guns will be Christian criminals.

There really is no bottom of the barrel with these people.

They long ago broke through the bottom of the barrel, tunnelled through the earth and are currently barrelling (ha!) along into interstellar space.

Actually, as a good rationalist, I feel that we should be supporting Mr. Pratt in his efforts. Recent surveys show that 80-90% of Americans support expanded background checks and closing the “Gun show loophole”.

The more lunatics like Pratt talk this kind of lunacy the more marginalized the right wing in this country becomes, the more marginalized the right wing becomes the more it bring politics back towards the center where it oughta be.

So, babel on Mr. Pratt, the Democratic party couldn’t have paid for a better helper.

You know, I have to admit, even if this were true I think I’d be pretty fine with that. I don’t think we should be giving deadly firearms to people with such a deeply professed disconnection from reality (not just for being Christian but in particular anyone who would believe silly conspiracy theories like this).

While Islamic terrorists managed one (multi-part) giant, spectacular attack on American soil, and a couple of ridiculous failures, domestic right-wing terrorists have managed a goodly number of solid attacks, ranging from attacks on abortion providers/clinics up to Oklahoma City. (I’m not including Boston in either category, since we still don’t know who is responsible for that.)

Which is not to say that radical lefties can’t commit terror acts–history shows this is a non-partisan activity–but that’s not who seems to be doing it these days.

So maybe he’s not so much paranoid as recognizing on some level that perhaps his “team” is drawing attention to itself in a bad way, and that people may want to do something about it.

federal background check may one day flag Christians as being dangerous and shouldn’t own weapons because they are part of a domestic hate group

You said it, not us. I think you can also make a valid argument that people demonstrably delusion on such grand scale should not own weapons.
