I have no idea how this happened, but I seem to have found my way onto Paul Cameron’s mailing list. Cameron is the fanatically anti-gay “researcher” who has been thoroughly discredited and thrown out of professional organizations for his rank dishonesty. In an email I received on Monday, really a press release, he says:
COLUMBUS, OH — Dr. Paul Cameron, the first scientist to document the harms of secondhand smoke, went to Ohio’s Capitol Building today to call upon U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) to reconsider his recently announced support for gay marriage. “Sen. Portman, gay marriage is hazardous to one’s health. For the sake of the son you love, urge him to marry a woman.”
Yeah, that’s a great idea. Does he think that marrying a woman will suddenly stop them from being gay? Sorry, it doesn’t work that way. That’s what gay men often did for a very long time and the results were usually disastrous. Indeed, I think this is a strong argument in favor of marriage equality and in favor of broad acceptance of homosexuality. Equality will reduce the number of such sham marriages and reduce the suffering that so often accompanies them.
