Dobson: Govt. Will Deny Medical Care to Father

Ryan Dobson, son of Christian right superstar James Dobson, went on Rick Wiles’ TruNews radio show and the two of them made the absolutely deranged claim that, under the health care reform bill, the government is going to deny medical care to conservatives — including Dobson’s dad.

Dobson: That’s what they’re looking for. And what are they going to do with that? You can’t trust them. Clearly they are targeting people. Are they going to use that to embarrass people? Are they going to use it to deny claims and benefits? My dad is seventy-seven, he’s had a heart attack, he’s had a stroke, he’s had cancer and he’s healthier today than he was twenty years ago. He works out every single day, he eats right, he exercises, he goes to his doctors and yet under Obamacare, if he has another stroke or if he’s got medical complications he is now at an age where they would deny a lot of those claims assuming that he’s not productive.

Wiles: When you go to the hospital they’re going to run a computer check on you: who you are, what your views are, who you support politically and that’s going to make the decision about whether you get medical care. I don’t care if they say that’s conspiratorial talk, I don’t care, that’s what happens under a dictatorship.

Dobson: Yeah, it doesn’t mean it’s not true. You can call it what you want, it doesn’t mean it’s not true. Yeah.

The sun on Planet Wingnuttia must be really bright.

Why aren’t they relying on God to care for him?

Won’t matter. When Obama gives the word, you and your daddy are going to be rounded up and herded off to the FEMA camps along with all them other fundie whack-a-doodles.

    “Where’s your Moses, now?” bitch!

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Dobson is famous for his many and deeply felt hates, including the US government. It would be poetic justice but it isn’t going to happen.

Looks like Ryan Dobson is a chip off the old hate and lies block.

Dobson’s Focus on Hating everybody and everything has been declining for years. The loot intake is down and they have had many layoffs. He isn’t even running it any more. They must have run up against just how much hate is too much hate.

Why aren’t they relying on God to care for him?

Because their faith is only the size of an orchid seed.

What I want to know is what he’s going to say when the care is not denied. My guess is: “Well, they did it, but only to prove us wrong. If we hadn’t shamed them into it, my dad would be dead.”

Damned Obamacare! Under the old system, nobody ever got denied care or coverage! How dare the government get between conservatives and their doctors?!?! That’s what insurance company middle management with an eye to the bottom line is for, dagnabbit!

As I understood the stories that came out during the coup, the new regime threw their founder out specifically because they didn’t want li’l Ryan D hanging around (never mind inheriting).

My mother, between rants about Islamofascist Hussein Obama bin Laden personally coming into her home to steal her Medicare, had an MRI and a stent inserted—paid for by Medicare. Medicare paid for her glucose monitor and for the approximately 30 medications she takes each day to control her diabetes, blood pressure, and other health problems. She won’t stop smoking or eating donuts because FREEDUMB! But she’ll endlessly complain about socialism and libruls coming between her and her doctor—a thing which has never actually happened.

I note she also has yet to return a Social Security check either.

There are far too many of these wingnuts who use the underpants gnomes as a basis for their logic

    1) Someone is old and Obamacare is introduced

    2) ….

    3) They will be refused care

I’m not sure if it genuinely doesn’t occur to them that if they are going to argue that Obamacare is bad, they need to not only to actually fill in point (2), but also to show how it will be worse than the current system, or if they know it makes no sense and are just lying to the ignorant and credulous.

Apparently this paranoia comes from the same source as soon-to-be-former Congresscritter Mrs. Marcus Bachmann’s latest freakout. Because the IRS is compiling a database of income and health coverage – but not health data – in order to implement the premium subsidy program under the ACA, that means the IRS will be using these data to administer health claims. Never mind that the IRS will not be handling any healthcare claims, because ACA gives that job to health insurers.

What’s truly tragic, though, about this specific paranoid fantasy is how divergent it is from the reality of medical care. It is physically impossible at this point to create a nationwide database of health information and healthcare services for two important reasons:

    1) There is no national identifier for individuals. When the HIPAA law passed in the mid-90s, it included a provision that every health care provider, vendor, insurer and patient have a standard identifying code to streamline claims payment. Privacy advocates, along with a sizeable number of wingnuts, protested the individual patient identifier portion (it was to be the SS#) because it would herald a national ID card or system (the wingnuts didn’t like it because it would be the virtual mark of Satan, or something). So now we have identifiers for all healthcare providers, vendors and insurers, but not individuals.

    2) Current HIT adoption by physicians who serve outpatients is still low – no more than 50 – 60%, depending on the study you look at. More importantly Electronic Medical Record technology is roughly where word processing was in the early 1990s – systems cannot communicate. Those of us who remember when the world was divided between Apple and PC users, with no means to share files or data between the systems, know the struggles the medical community currently faces. It is simply not possible to compile the information on one person over several systems.

Of course I realize bringing reality into the conversation is ludicrous when dealing with the fundies, but so be it.

Why does a millionaire conservative want to use ‘guvmut’ healthcare anyway?

Following that, does she go off about “entitlements” being “out of control”? And later does she go back to talking about Medicare and much she pays out of pocket and how it should cover everything? Because it’s not a real rant if it doesn’t loop all the way around. That’s how the universe gets its power (it used to get its power from elders saying racist things at the family dinner table, but since those aren’t so overt anymore, it switched).

kantalope “Why does a millionaire conservative want to use ‘guvmut’ healthcare anyway?”

Because he earned it. Government, you see, is for People Like Us®; the Makers, not the Moochers. Moochers just get the “Law and Order” part of government, on account of they’re all lazy criminals who want to rape our white women.

And also he’s probably got some ridiculous supplemental insurance, with a private suite at the Doctorium and only the finest laudanum and such, because he earned those. Unlike those lazy old people who just mooch off the Medicare.

Dobson and Wiles obviously get their facts from the same place as the editorial writers for Investor’s Business Daily:

People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn’t have a chance in the U.K., where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless.

I wonder how much of this is projection on the part of wingnuts. They assume this is how things would work out because that’s exactly how they would run things.

So he’s complaining that his father won’t get socialized health care?

  • lochaber

wait, did he just admit that this person wasn’t productive? why is he supporting non-productive members of society, isn’t that socialist, or islamic, or humanist, or something?

The sun on Planet Wingnuttia must be really bright.

I hate to break it to you, but nothing on Planet Wingnutia is very bright.

  • skinnercitycyclist

if he has another stroke or if he’s got medical complications he is now at an age where they would deny a lot of those claims assuming that he’s not productive

His claim concerning how the ACA works is a strawman of course, but isn’t it implicit in the current system now, in terms of right-wing notions of worth? Those who are successful financially obviously have virtue, are doing the right things, and can afford medical care, through insurance or otherwise. If you work three crummy jobs to keep your family afloat and still cannot afford health care, well, you should just be more “productive.”

  • typecaster

Well, it’s not as if it hasn’t happened before. Every one of my older relatives who applies for Social Security has to face questioning about their political beliefs, and those who don’t pass muster are denied their benefits. You hear about it every night on the news. It’s just proof that Obama will use any means at his disposal to persecute anyone who might disagree with him. Tyranny pure and simple, I’m telling you.

    .

I’m actually a little sorry I wrote that. Some rightwing turdtipper will hear about it, and start pushing it on Fox.
