Another reaction to the Supreme Court’s marriage equality rulings that I was eagerly awaiting was that of Bradlee Dean, the not-too-bright Minnesota evangelist and mediocre rock drummer. Like so many others, he did not disappoint with inane rhetoric like this:
This morning, the Supreme Court once again usurped their authority by committing an abomination (1 Corinthians 6:9-10, 1 Timothy 1:9, Romans 1:24, Leviticus 18:22, 20:13, Jude 1:7) when unlawfully wading outside of their jurisdiction and meddling with the God-ordained definition of marriage. A 5-4 ruling has overturned key parts of DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). The Supreme Court also dismissed an appeal made by 7 million people of California who twice voted to ban homosexual marriage in their state (Prop 8), claiming their appeal “has no standing.”
I really do find this claim that marriage is defined by God in the Bible to be quite amusing. They do realize that other cultures had marriage long before anyone there had even heard of the Bible, right? No, they probably don’t. He went on to declare that this is all part of a “planned agenda aimed at fundamentally destroying, not transforming, America.” America is going to be destroyed, people! Which makes the last line of this post all the more hilarious:
Think Overturning Doma is bad? You should see what MSNBC and Rachel Maddow did to Bradlee Dean.
Come on, that’s funny. “This is going to destroy America! But if you think that’s bad, you should see what MSNBC did to Bradlee Dean! It’s so much worse!” You know what Rachel Maddow did to him? Nothing. She quoted him saying that Muslims are more moral than American Christians, quotes she got from my former employer, the American Independent News Network, and our terrific reporter Andy Birkey (Dean sued AINN too). He said on his radio show:
“Muslims are calling for the executions of homosexuals in America. This just shows you they themselves are upholding the laws that are even in the Bible of the Judeo-Christian God, but they seem to be more moral than even the American Christians do, because these people are livid about enforcing their laws. They know homosexuality is an abomination.”
Pretty clear, isn’t it? Birkey quoted him saying this. So did Maddow. Now he’s suing for defamation because they accurately said that he said this. He’s already been ordered to pay their legal fees in one court because they wanted the case moved to a venue without an anti-SLAPP law. Oh, you know who his lawyer is? Larry Klayman. Now that may be worse than America being destroyed.
