Rios: Obama’s Two Weapons are Islam and The Gay

Sandy Rios of the American Family Association went on one of her standard-issue fact-free rants on her radio show, saying that while she “will not affirm” that Obama is a Muslim, his first priority is Islam. And his second is homosexuality. Because that’s totally coherent.

I know the Left is listening to this conversation and I don’t care, it’s not going to intimidate me one bit, but I am committed to accuracy in what we say. And first, Barack Obama being a Muslim: We know that he has recited the Muslim call to prayer beautifully to a New York Times reporter, it’s Nicholas Kristof I believe, and as I understand it, when you recite that prayer, you state it over and over, that’s actually, that is how you become a Muslim.

Now, he was registered as a Muslim in Indonesia when he was a kid, through his step-father who was a Muslim, and we know that many of his family members in Kenya are Muslim. But I think, you know, he claims he’s a Christian. I dispute that claim. I will dispute that. I will not affirm that he’s Muslim. I will dispute the fact that he is a follower of Jesus Christ, or he would not embrace and advance the immorality that he does…

We have a dangerous situation here. I think we would all acknowledge, we must acknowledge, that we are in a dangerous situation. We have a president that, and in fact, as I recall, he actually penned in one of his books– and those of you on the Left can check me out on this – that when it came to some sort of showdown or a final decision or something he had to decide between the Muslim world and the West, he would choose the Muslim, he would favor the Muslims. He did actually write that. And I think he’s certainly shown that, in case after case.

And so, that’s what we…I, many of us tried to say this when he was running for president, but many of the American people, most of them didn’t want to hear it, did not want to hear it. And I would just like to go on record as saying, this is the fruit of electing someone with the past that he has, being the person that he is, with the philosophies and persuasions that he has. This is the result of that.

And so, it hasn’t anything to do with race. And that’s probably part of the distressing thing too, is that I think many black voters were persuaded that he was elected to represent them when really his most, it seems to me, most passionate interest is – this even sounds bizarre — but it’s advancing homosexuality, that has been a passion of his since he’s been in office, and advancing Islam. Islam first and homosexuality probably second. And as weird and strange as that sounds, that’s been his record.

We could challenge Rios to actually produce that statement that Obama would choose Islam over America, the one he “did certainly write,” but it would be pointless. There is no such quote, of course, but Rios doesn’t really care. Facts are irrelevant to her.

Title: Rios: Obama’s Two Weapons are Islam and The Gay

That’s right, Obama’s two weapons are Islam and The Gay. And Death Panels.

    OK, Obama’s three weapons are….

and as I understand it, when you recite that prayer, you state it over and over, that’s actually, that is how you become a Muslim.

Right! Just like you become a Christian by merely saying a prayer … no need for that ‘born again’ nonsense!

really his most, it seems to me, most passionate interest is – this even sounds bizarre — but it’s advancing homosexuality, that has been a passion of his since he’s been in office

Go with that “sounds bizarre” thought. He was so passionate about it he ducked the issue as long as he could until the political winds changed.

When will these people ever stop having arguments with the voices that only reside in their own heads?

I know the Left is listening to this conversation and I don’t care, it’s not going to intimidate me one bit,

The first sentence is a lie. And then it goes downhill from there.

when you recite that prayer, you state it over and over, that’s actually, that is how you become a Muslim.

This is magical thinking. Magic doesn’t work.

You become a Moslem by deciding to become a Moslem. Exactly the same way you become a xian or atheist. And you can change your mind any time you want.

    OK, Obama’s three weapons are….

Islam, The Gay and Death Panels…and an almost fanatical devotion to socialism…. Our four…no… Amongst our weapons…. Amongst our weaponry…are such elements as Islam, The Gay…. I’ll come in again.

“I am committed to accuracy in what we say.”

    That’s her first lie.

“… he had to decide between the Muslim world and the West, he would choose the Muslim, he would favor the Muslims. He did actually write that.”

I’d be very interested to see what perfectly innocent statement she’s misconstruing here. There’s always the possibility that she’s making the whole thing up, of course.

Here is where the wingnuts get their “favor the Muslims” shtick:

they need specific reassurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction

    @ alanb: Thank you.

Do they know that Muslims aren’t, in general, a big fan of teh gay?

Further, I’m confused, first she says he became a Muslim by saying “beetlejuice” three times the Muslim call to prayer over and over, then she says he was registered Muslim in Indonesia through his Muslim step-father. Does that mean he’s a double Muslim or a Muslim squared? Is becoming a Muslim down to magic words or bureaucracy?

I’m worried, the penalty for apostasy is death, what if I become Muslim by mistake!? Spease clear this up, Sandy!

  • Christoph Burschka

Does that mean he’s a double Muslim or a Muslim squared?

    Or does it cancel out?

  • Nick Gotts

I am committed to accuracy in what we say.

It’s very easy to miss an initial unstressed syllable – are you sure it wasn’t “inaccuracy”?

  • Nick Gotts

Actually you can “become a Muslim” by reciting a certain formula, which expresses part of what is said in the call to prayer “with conviction and understanding”:

“La ilah illa Allah, Muhammad rasoolu Allah.”

    The translation of which is:

“I testify that there is no true god (deity) but God (Allah), and that Muhammad is a Messenger (Prophet) of God.”

Exact conditions on the recitation vary between schools, but it’s not a magic spell: merely reciting it, if you don’t intend thereby to convert to Islam, doesn’t make you a Muslim.

  • laurentweppe

There is no such quote, of course, but Rios doesn’t really care

    Nor do her readers.

  • skinnercitycyclist

and as I understand it, when you recite that prayer, you state it over and over, that’s actually, that is how you become a Muslim.

Probably not true, but I will acknowledge this: As I understand it, when you recite a lie, you state it over and over, that’s actually, that is how you become a liar.

  • bmiller

Silly me, and here I thought Obama’s primary interest was in advancing the National Security state and the interests of Wall Street. But no, it’s Islam and The Gay., Because Islam and The Gay have so much more influence and money in the United States right now….

What is it that makes you a christian except that you say that you are one?

It’s certainly not your actions, because I have seen some christians do some pretty heinous things yet still be considered faithful christians. Unless you are going with the “no true Scotsman” defense.

Is there another method for identifying christians? Church records? Baptism records? Confirmation records? What does it take?

  • Moggie

If I write out the call to prayer phonetically, and give it to someone to read three times, do they accidentally become a Muslim? I suppose this might be useful if you want their bacon.

So, I keep hearing people waxing lyrical about how supportive of Islam Obama is. Can anyone point to any actual legislation or policy he’s responsible for that could reasonably claimed to be pro-muslim? Or is it all just that he hasn’t unilalaterally bombed anyone that looks sideways at Israel, and lack of Presidentially sanctioned pogroms in Deerborne?

Wait the Left is listening? American politics has a Left wing?

    @raven #3:

You become a Moslem by deciding to become a Moslem. Exactly the same way you become a xian or atheist. And you can change your mind any time you want.

Eh, that doesn’t sound quite right to me, either. I never chose to become an atheist — I recognized myself as one, once I realized that I no longer believed in any religion. I couldn’t just choose to return to Christianity, or choose to try Islam; I regard their beliefs as false. I could attend services, talk the talk, walk the walk — but I’d just be faking it, unless I were somehow convinced first. And, for myself at least, I can’t just choose what I’d like to believe, and thereby be convinced.

I do wonder if that’s how it works for everyone. It seems intuitively that it should be so; but I see people who “convert” for family or political reasons. Are they all faking it? I dunno.

As far as the magic prayer, there are some Christian types (perhaps including Sandy Rios?) who profess to believe in more or less just that, about their own religion. Chick Tracts promote this, for example. Of course you have to say it with an open heart, or some such rubbish, but then Jesus comes into your heart and magically gives you the ability to believe in his preposterous story — a degree of gullibility which would be impossible without divine intervention. I think that’s about how it goes.

  • mildlymagnificent

then she says he was registered Muslim in Indonesia through his Muslim step-father.

Blithely overlooking the Indonesian requirement to state one of a few specified religions as part of your identity documents. “No religion” was not an option until recently, and many other religions are not options either. Last I remember, there are half a dozen standard choices, ‘no religion’ is now an option, but several religions are actively suppressed along with “deviant” versions of the big six.

Perhaps she’s being honest and we simply misheard her. Since she spouts nothing but whackadoo conspiracy theories, maybe she actually said:

“I am committed to whackuracy in what we say.”

  • Thumper; Atheist mate

…I am committed to accuracy in what we say.

Well that’s a lie, right out of the blocks. See the rest of the quote for evidence.

It’s the same people who claim Obama is a Muslim as denounced Obama’s Christian pastor, Jeremiah Wright, for pointing out unsavory bits of American history and society.

Nemo @23 — Actually, according to Joseph W. Campbell, that’s how it works. You are born a Jew or Hindu — what he calls the “ethnic” religions — but you can choose to become a Christian, Muslim, or Buddhist.
