Bryan Fischer Award Nominee: Matt Barber

The Bryan Fischer Award is given to people with a staggering lack of self-awareness, routinely accusing their opponents of their own worst traits. And I laughed out loud when I heard Matt Barber of Liberty Counsel say that “hyperbole is responsible for all of the world’s problems.”

As Right Wing Watch points out, Barber is known primarily for his absurdly hyperbolic comments about the evil gay agenda:

Liberty Counsel’s Matt Barber isn’t exactly known for moderation or mild rhetoric, especially when it comes to gay rights. He warns of “religious freedom being crushed by the homosexualist juggernaut,” says that gay people live a “lust-filled, sex-centric, perversion-centric lifestyle,” believes LGBT families are in “rebellion against God,” claims that the Boy Scouts “committed gay activist suicide” when they allowed openly gay scouts, and insists that the Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA) would protect pedophiles.

Hilarious. “Gay people are evil and possessed by demons and protecting their rights will destroy American society and make God destroy us with earthquakes and disasters. Oh, and hyperbole is really bad.”

I want “lust-filled, sex-centric, perversion-centric lifestyle” “in rebellion against God” sounds fun.

Sound like someone needs to be glitter bombed.

  • Mr Ed

Wasn’t homosexualist juggernaut an underground comic in the 80’s?

I’m with matty1 I would even settle for alternate weekends of lust-filled, sex-centric, perversion-centric lifestyle

I’ve told that idiot a thousand times to stop using hyperbole!

Maybe. But I’m pretty sure I remember The Homosexualist Juggernaut as a one-hit wonder rock band back in the day with their classic song “Our Perversion-centic Lifestyle”. Couldn’t listen to AM radio more than 10 minutes without hearing it. Turned half my high school class gay including our school mascot. You haven’t lived till you’ve seen a tarted up cowboy leading cheers at the football games.

I was working for a construction foreman in Maryland 40 or so years ago when a nice car drove by driven by a black man.*

“Damn [epithets] drive better cars than I have and they’re too lazy to work!”

“George, if one applied for a job here, would you hire him?”

George looked at me like I was crazy. “Hell no!”

The lack of self awareness, the oblivious making of contradictory assertions, the utter lack of shame while openly expressing the most outrageous hypocrisy by these folks has always baffled me.

Barber made this ridiculous statement in response to President Obama noting that “millions of LGBT Americans go to work every day fearing that, without any warning, they could lose their jobs.” Which is demonstrably true (if you assume normal emotional response to the very real danger of being fired.).

    * We were about ten miles from D.C. There were a …lot of high-paying jobs in the area…

As disgusting as his comments are, I’m really enjoying the phrase “homosexualist juggernaut” :) Sounds like a new position.

I don’t think it’s hyperbole to the Fischer though. Remember the problem with being in an echo chamber is that it’s meant to reduce the amount of information by design. He thinks he is being accurate because he is selective in his information and/or never fact checks himself.

A homosexualist juggernaut ran me off the road once.

  • Doug Little

    homosexualist juggernaut

Need to come up with a cocktail and name it this.

  • Johnny Vector

I’m more worried about homosexualist juggaloes. Fucking magnets, how does that work?

Also, all his complaining about hyperbole all over the place just makes me picture him with his fist in the air shouting, “Hate ALL the things!”
