Get Your Cranston Prayer Christmas Tree Ornament

It wouldn’t be a church/state controversy without someone trying to profit from it. You can now buy a Christmas ornament of the prayer banner that Jessica Ahlquist successfully had removed from her school. Because nothing says “Christmas spirit” like trying to make money from a controversy.

To be fair, I actually have a penguin ornament with a Santa hat and ornaments. But I bought mine before Aisha Harris’ essay on Slate, so I guess it doesn’t count.

As an atheist, I’m deeply unconcerned about this.

…and you can display it on your own, private, property (or in a public forum on public property where others can also display their own things, in between the menora and the festivus pole) where it’s not an issue.

“… nothing says ‘Christmas spirit’ like trying to make money from a controversy.”

Fixed, at least as far as America is concerned.

    Modusoperandi “…menora…”

Um. “Menorah”. Menora is totally different. It’s for hannuka, when the uckabees had oil for only one nigt but it lasted for eigt. True story.

As an atheist, I’m deeply disappointed I didn’t think of this first.

And “uckabees” should be “Maccabees”. And “hannuka” should be “hanukka”. And further corrections to follow…

Fits in nicely with the rest of the tasteless garbage on that site. I especially like the “Italian Slang Figurines”

My biggest objection to the Cranston prayer wasn’t even that it was in a school… it was that it was so fucking syrupy.

  • MikeMa

If Christmas is not the holiday to celebrate making money, what has the world come to?

  • teawithbertrand

Seriously… This is some kind of snowman saying “Fuck you” in Italian.

It’s a new tradition. They put it up, then one of them dresses up as an evil atheistnazistalinhitler and tries to take it down, while the rest of them “defend” it by shouting “PERSECUTION” at him. Seeing the brave Christian defenders inspires the evil atheistnazistalinhitler to immediately renounce its evil atheistnazistalinhitlerism and find Jesus. Then they welcome him into Team Jesus by symbolically gang beating the effigy of a gay man and burning down a scale model abortion clinic.

They know their Catholic market. The same people who hang prayer ornaments on trees, make death threats against teenaged girls and proudly display figurines that says go get ass-fucked in Italian.

figurines that says go get ass-fucked in Italian.

I’d rather get ass-fucked in French, I think.

My knowledge of Italian is extremely patchy (and mostly derived from musical terminology, where ass-fucking is very rarely among the performance instructions), but I think it translates more as ‘go and fuck an ass’ than ‘go and get ass-fucked’. But I suspect that this is not the place for pedantry :-)

    Even in opera?

I actually feel sorry for those people who ‘celebrate’ by searching the media for hints that someone is doing something different to them and then letting out anguished wails about attacks on Christmas and baby Jesus.

The Italian figurines on the other hand are great, I mean who doesn’t enjoy fucking an ass for The Holidays ((c) Evil Atheists)?

As an atheist, I regret that Jessica Ahlquist never thought of the idea in time to release her own version. I suppose I’ll have to wait until next year to display my Evil Little Thing commemorative tree ornament.

Betcha the school has a “Holiday” tree, and betcha at least one of these is on it.
